If you're ashamed then change your behaviour, but stop asking me for absolution
heartbreaking: reader who doesn't contribute anything to the fandom threatens to stop reading an author's fics because they seriously believe that the lack of their passive interaction with fan content will "punish" said author

I’m still here.
Genuinely I think if people said “hey since ao3 is down I’m compiling a drive/list/zip/WHATEVER, message me if you want to include your fic!” Authors would’ve been ECSTATIC, eager to join!
But we live in an opt-out panopticon of scraping and intellectual theft…

And I think my issue, the one thing I can’t look past, is that the entire situation adopted a corporate internet “opt out” mentality which I think is the antithesis of fandom.
People shouldn’t have to “opt out” of being in these drives, everyone’s done this all backwards.

Have you considered respecting authors wishes and copyright law and waiting 2-4 weeks for ao3 to be restored what is wrong with you people? Our work is being stolen daily and you need marvel characters to fist each other so badly you're serving up entire catalogues for free.

What I've been TELLING you all btw. Public Docs & Ellipsus Links can EASILY be scrapped by AI web-crawlers !! Anything you share publically on the internet IS forever—dk if this is the whole truth, but it's enough for writers to be wary. PLEASE go change the settings on your apps

fic addicts who claim they loooove to read so much they can't go a few weeks without one site vs understanding analogies and “what if” scenarios

With AO3 now taking action against people stealing fics and reiterating that creators of fanwork DO own the right to their fic I really hope the people who died on the hill that it's ok to repost fics without consent can be honorable enough to admit their mistake and apologize 🙏

the unrestrained reuploading of fanworks ended right where I knew it would: a website explicitly feeding millions of fics to ai and charging for it.

credit or not its still 100% fandom etiquette to get consent b4 ANY art reuploading. lol extremely telling that i have yet to see 1 person on this side of things come up with any argument beyond "dont wanna risk them saying no" which is, for obvious reasons, disgusting

In case anyone, for whatever godforsaken reason, was actually considering PAYING for this, here’s what this “audiobook” sounds like🤮

ppl on bringing up the ao3 download button to make authors look stupid when in reality the overwhelming majority of writers are talking about uploading fics to the google drive without permission and i think it actually says a lot that you need to twist the narrative so much
The more i see those google drive archives the more uncomfortable i get with their concept, i hate it
