There Is No Debate Over Critical Race Theory - The Atlantic- Thanks to scholar Ibram X. Kendi for reminding us once again of how critical race theory is being demonized and politicized by people who have no idea what it even is! apple.news/A-Wnaisu8R6qmp_dF…
After the injustice of Nikole Hannah-Jones’s tenure denial, the chronicle of higher education posted a database showing the horrible reality of the low numbers of tenured Black women at campuses across the country. Academic misogynoir is real. #TenureBlackWomen @KeishaBlain

Somehow we weathered and witnessed
A nation that isn't broken
but simply unfinished
There is always light
if only we're brave enough to see it
if only we're brave enough to be it.

Ok, I am done. Not giving this any more attention. Can’t let this distract me from doing my work. #Citeblackwomen
Black women academics are always assumed to be suspect as scholars; but how well do we examine the motivations of White scholars in the work that they do?
I can’t step outside of my blackness, remove my skin at will. I also can’t remove the cultural upbringing that shapes how I move through and see the world every day. It is so disheartening to see others profiting off of our experiences while trying to get us to doubt ourselves
All while dismissing the work of scholars, Black scholars, that ascribe meaning to location and origins in their work.
With her own choices about identity in her own life, identity as malleable, a choice one makes rather than something that is ascribed or shaped by social contexts outside of your control. She asks on the same page (page 15) “what if we begin to ask what identity means at all...”
So I am too through with this #JessicaKrug nonsense. I took a look at her book, which I also had on a list of books to read. Her larger claims about African nation identities being “always primarily political claims rather than ascriptions of location or origin” seem to align

Many are asking themselves how #JessicaKrug managed to fool anyone into believing she was Afro Latina. Well, let me tell you: we were both fellows at the Schomburg and I suppose she fooled me. (a thread 🧵)

Being Black in academia is having staff, administrators, and other non-Black professors confuse you with other Black professors, when you look nothing alike and there are only a few of you anyway. #BlackintheIvory #Callmebymyownname
#BlackintheIvory. Realizing that there are written rules and unwritten practices; your white colleagues benefit from knowledge of the unwritten practices while you are doing things “by the book.” Being invisible when resources are allocated but then visible for unpaid service.
