Oh dear. The Conservatives’ first election broadcast shows the union flag flying the wrong way up, which is a distress signal… (h/t @Markwmw_02)

I’m standing for the board of the Association of Anaesthetists. If you‘re a member then the email from Civica Election Services with the voting link should have arrived by now. I’m going to expand on my election statement a bit here: 1/

Wow! As a consultant anaesthetist, I can’t say I’ve ever come across a light anaesthetic. What a breakthrough.
In a UK-first, @OUHospitals have performed a heart procedure where a new valve is delivered through a leg vein under light anaesthetic to treat severe heart valve disease. This means patients can avoid open heart surgery, and they can go home after just a few days!

For anyone watching Mastermind, Virginia Apgar was an obstetric anaesthesiologist, not a paediatrician. @CliveMyrieBBC

Think of it as a no fault eviction notice Rachel
I’ve been asked to step down from my role as Housing Minister. Disappointed and was looking forward to introducing the Renters Reform Bill to Committee tomorrow and later the Leasehold and Freehold Bill. It has been a privilege to hold the position and I wish my successor well.

Respond to the Government’s proposals for minimum service levels on strike days which, if implemented, will significantly impact your ability to take safe but effective action 👇 activism.bma.org.uk/page/137…

Dr Tim Meek has been named as President Elect of the Association of Anaesthetists. He takes up this post at #AC2023 in Edinburgh today, before formally taking up the post of President of the Association in September 2024 at Annual Congress in Harrogate ow.ly/G61150PLAU6

It’s time to stop gaslighting & start talking @SteveBarclay Your @Conservatives waiting lists are killing patients in unprecedented numbers & only 1 in 10 believe your nonsense it’s due to striking NHS workers 👇 RT to demand @RishiSunak & Steve get real about #PayRestoration
Today’s announcement from the BMA of more doctors’ strikes is extremely disappointing. I know it will weigh heavily on the minds of their NHS colleagues and patients – both of whom are shouldering the brunt of the BMA’s relentless and now co-ordinated strike action. (1/4)

A weak strike tomorrow will tell the Government they can carry on cutting our pay for years more and we’ll just fuss and grumble. A strong strike drags them closer to a proper pay deal that allows the NHS to start refilling the gaps in its stretched and tired workforce 💙

So I’ve thought long and hard about this: When the ballot went out I voted to strike. I’ve been in two minds whether to go through with it, particularly with the disruption it will cause, but I’ve decided to go through with it.
