The second best season in #Flames history deserves to be remembered for the incredible experience it was. I tried to capture the magic. Here's my tribute video montage to the 2018/19 Calgary Flames. Hope you enjoy watching it as much as I did making it. youtube.com/watch?v=o2Bxq7rm…

I'd be interested in SEA's Carson Soucy if I were the #Flames today. 6'5 and moves well + good relative underlying numbers on a bad team. He's signed next season at 2.75M, so a 3rd team would also need to retain $, which is dicey. But, depth + replacement for Zadorov next year.

Given everybody and their dog is looking for depth defenceman, acquiring him outright would be tough enough, but to get Seattle AND someone else retain salary through next season would likely cost a lot. If they're willing to spend the assets though, it appears a great fit.
If the #Flames do land Eichel, I see two certainties: Monahan is involved (duh), but also: someone other than Eichel is coming back. CGY is competitive and can't afford to kneecap themselves for 3 months, especially since one or both of Valimaki and Dube would also depart.

If the Weekes report is true, this is all out the window, obviously. And I'm not sure how I'd feel moving on from Tkachuk.

I presume part of it is Tkachuk costing 9MM next season, and Eichel costing 10.

I could see them liking a Zemgus Girgensons or Cody Eakin up front, and perhaps a Robert Hagg on defence. It's not sexy, but they're relatively cheap NHLers that the #Flames would need. No sense trading for Eichel just to torpedo a great start to the season.

I'm also not necessarily supporting this idea, I'm just certain the #Flames won't completely torpedo their depth for a guy who won't play until at least February given their start to the season. It'll be Eichel and someone else if it does happen.

It’s Oliver KylingTIME.

I don't know why it's come as a surprise that a Darryl Sutter coached team is acquiring Darryl Sutter-type players. No sense in half-committing to a Sutter run team.

Also, my only opinion on Blake Coleman is: I'm wary of signing guys who just went through multiple grueling seasons and playoffs with the expectation of getting the same performance moving forward. B2B cup runs will take a lot out of someone. James Neal was in a similar boat.

Given no team is "serious" about Eichel and his camp is getting frustrated, if the #Flames quit trying to be the smartest people in the room and missing on deals as a result, they should pitch: Monahan, Dube or Valimaki, Coronato, Zary or Pelletier and a 1st. Just commit.
I’m hearing the Buffalo ask for Eichel from Vegas is Smith, Peyton Krebs, Nic Hague and a first-rounder.

Monahan's situation may also preclude him from even being an attractive asset. In that case, it's Tkachuk or Lindholm, who the #Flames would need to keep to contend with Eichel. I'd just hate another Mark Stone situation, where the overvaluing of prospects hurts the NHL team.

The last piece of the puzzle, as I see it, is Eichel's neck. If you trade the house for a broken asset, the #Flames are in purgatory. Given they're still rumored to be interested though, I suspect they've concluded that isn't a huge deal.
I had to return to Twitter briefly for this madness. It's all too much to resist.

Michael Stone leads all #Flames in 5v5 CF%, is second in xGF%. Sample size is small, but the eye test backs the numbers. Who pegged Stone as the guy who'd benefit most from Darryl Sutter?

I'm honestly shocked the #Flames got the equivalent of two 2nds for Sam Bennett. Tidy piece of work for Treliving.

Bennett's qualifying offer would come in at $2,550,000, which I'd imagine is too rich for FLA's blood. He could be re-signed separate from that, but there's a chance Bennett becomes a UFA. If so, I'd love him to return to CGY. He's been better under Sutter.

It seems unbelievable, but did that 2019 Colorado Avalanche series completely break the Calgary Flames? Monahan nor Gaudreau have been the same since.
