Josephine says a 17-year-old employee pushing a heavy cart nearly slammed into her. No “excuse me.” No apology. Nothing. So Bert did what husbands do. He spoke up for his wife. Josephine says words were exchanged, and the teen THREW A CAN at them as they walked away. It missed. The couple didn’t want trouble. They kept shopping. A witness says the teen was on the phone, telling someone which aisle he was in and what he was wearing. Minutes later, her PARENTS walked into the store. In Josephine’s words: “They crowded my husband, one of the adults hit him in the face. He fell down on the floor.” She says they KEPT KICKING HIM while he was on the ground. She begged them to stop. She told them he had heart problems. She held him in her arms while his mouth bled. He died the next day. The medical examiner ruled it a HOMICIDE caused by blunt head trauma. Erika Mitchell, 42, and Travis White, 44, are now charged with SECOND-DEGREE M*RDER, according to court records. Their 17-year-old daughter faces charges too.
