Binance lost about $6.3B in a hack on 29 Oct and says it has replaced roughly 95%. Every exchange board is now asking who owns incident response. Security engineers with exchange-scale key management are a very short list. Are you hiring for this or watching it?
Friday dates drop, UK edition. 30 Sep: the FCA opened crypto authorisation applications. 28 Feb: apply by then and you keep serving UK customers while the review runs. 25 Oct 2027: regime goes live, unauthorised firms can only serve existing contracts. That is a hiring timeline.
Our read on the hiring side. The application is a document, but the regulator is reading the people behind it. Who runs compliance. Who has been through an authorisation before. Who owns AML day to day. A first time team is the slow path.
Circle cut about 5% of staff, disclosed in a footnote, in a quarter where revenue rose 17% to $865M. Growth and layoffs now land in the same release. Good people are on the market with no warning. Are you hiring from these cuts or watching them?
Geo pay take. If the team is remote and the role is senior, pay for the role, not the postcode. A senior protocol engineer in Lisbon is interviewing with the same teams as one in New York. Pay a Lisbon number and you become the offer they use as leverage somewhere else.
Block agreed to a $964M DOJ deal over its AML program, with a three year deferred prosecution. Every exchange and payments firm reading that is budgeting for BSA officers, sanctions and transaction monitoring leads. Are you hiring AML now, or waiting for the regulator to ask?
Notice period take. A three month notice period is part of the hiring timeline, not a surprise at offer stage. If you need the seat filled by Q1, the search opens now. Ask every finalist their notice on the first call, then count backwards from the start date you want.
One role on our desk drew 1,600 applicants in a single day. Same week, a candidate told one of our recruiters he had used AI to apply for 1,500 jobs. Rejections or silence, every time. Then he messaged people he already knew, directly. 30 calls booked in a week.
Binance traced a $6.3B loss to one compromised DevOps laptop. The weak point was a workstation, not the code. Key custody and endpoint security leads just moved up the hiring list. Are you hiring for that profile, or watching others move first?
Interview test for a payments fraud hire: ask for the last threshold they changed, what it did to losses, and what it did to approval rates. People who have done the work answer in numbers. People who have only managed it answer in principles.
Two profiles show up on every payments fraud build. Bank policy leaders: strong on frameworks and regulators, often a layer away from the rule engine. Fintech and issuer analysts: tune rules weekly, run cases daily, rarely designed a framework or hired a team.
Kalshi raised $1B at a $40B valuation. Use of funds: institutional sales, distribution, Latin America and Europe.
That is a hiring plan with a press release attached.
Institutional sales leads who speak crypto just got scarcer. Are you hiring for that profile or watching it?
Binance linked its $6.3B theft to a DevOps engineer's compromised laptop. Not a contract bug. A person and a device.
Exchanges are now re-auditing access controls, and security engineers who have run live wallet infrastructure are a short list.
Hiring for this or watching it?
