Why do musicians hate AI? Not just because it threatens their livelihoods. In this piece for the @FT, I argue that the promotion of AI music generation software is an insult to musicians: a tacit expression of disrespect not just for what musicians do, but for who they are.

Owing to popular demand, we now offer a reference verification service, currently very popular amongst legal scholars and professionals, but increasingly across the humanities and social sciences.
As more authors use AI to build bibliographies, we are seeing a sharp rise in references that are misattributed and erroneous.
Our reference verification service is conducted by researchers with no AI involved, ensuring factually accurate publications.

I think the line that "AI helped with drafting text but did not contribute any ideas" is about 2yrs out of date now. If you use AI in writing at all, it immediately starts contributing ideas whether or not you ask it to do so.
Very proud of this one!

Boy, it sure is looking like a bad day for the "it's just another technology to be used well or poorly " crowd.
And the higher education leaders who have been cheerleading having it everywhere at all times? They too, have some explaining to do.
We Must Pace the Frontier: I’ve written a new essay on why the AI industry should slow down, with a three-part plan for doing so.
Anthropic is unilaterally committing to the first of these steps. We’ll provide third-party evaluators with permanent, employee-level access to our systems, so that they can verify adherence to our safety measures, report on incidents, and assess models’ alignment during training.

If AI companies really want to create “academic level” work, release it several years after everyone has lost interest in the topic
I've finally cracked the problem of individual vs group agency: An individual's practical reasoning concludes in action, whereas the practical reasoning of committees only concludes in action points.
I'm looking forward to this conference on Action, Politics, & Responsibility. This time next week in Tokyo!
I'll be talking about 'Agents as Truthmakers', which is a topic I've been thinking about for a while, but not yet in relation to group agency.
