Yesterday was a great day for our democracy. If we want to hold on to what we’re feeling today, we need to get to work.

We talk about developmentally appropriate instruction, but how often do we question whether the structure of the school day itself is developmentally appropriate?

Maybe this is crazy. But a woman who built herself up from being a homeless child to an accomplished physician, seems preferable to a man born into the privileges of private education and frequent international family vacations but never learned decency.

A teacher pushes back on a decision in a staff meeting. The discussion ends, but sometimes the consequences don't.
Suddenly, they're left out of conversations. Their concerns are dismissed more quickly. They start wondering whether speaking up was worth it.
Other educators notice that, too. And pretty soon, people learn that agreeing is safer than being honest.
Leaders don't have to change every decision because someone disagrees. Sometimes the original decision needs to stand.
But people should be able to challenge an idea without worrying that it will change how they're treated afterward.
Otherwise, you might get agreement in meetings while the honest conversations happen somewhere else.

BREAKING: George W. Bush's brother Neil just dropped a BOMB on MAGA by proudly announcing that he voted for James Talarico in the Texas Senate race.
This just gave Republicans a flashing green light to vote blue...
"I have never posted a political message on Facebook not wanting to offend friends whose views may be very different than mine. I'm breaking that tradition because I voted early today, and I voted for James Talarico for the United States Senate," Bush, the child of the late President George H.W. Bush wrote on Facebook.
"My vote was motivated by two things: deep concern about Ken Paxton's record and genuine admiration for the character and principles I see in James Talarico," he continued.
"I have been deeply troubled by Paxton's conduct as Texas Attorney General, particularly his decision to challenge the results of the 2020 presidential election in other states in an effort to help Donald Trump remain in power. I believe that effort was an affront to our democratic institutions and the peaceful transfer of power. My concerns about his judgment and conduct are hardly mine alone. He was impeached by the Republican-controlled Texas House, although subsequently acquitted by the Texas Senate."
"More broadly, I believe Donald Trump and those who have enabled him have done enormous damage to the Republican Party. I worry about a political culture in which loyalty to an individual takes precedence over loyalty to principle, and where those who hold power begin to believe they are no longer accountable."
"But my vote today was about much more than opposition to Ken Paxton."
"I've never met James Talarico, but I have been enormously impressed by the way he approaches complicated and controversial issues. He speaks with respect, seeks common ground, and seems genuinely interested in bringing people together rather than driving them apart. His faith appears to be a deeply rooted source of humility, compassion, and conviction rather than a political weapon."
I see in him the qualities I admire most in public servants: integrity, civility, humility, and a willingness to listen to those with whom he disagrees. My impression is that he is a principled, pragmatic leader who understands that public office is a responsibility to serve, not an entitlement to power."
"I have been a Republican for most of my life, and I still believe deeply in many traditional Republican principles. But character matters more than party affiliation. Our democracy depends on leaders who respect our institutions, tell the truth, accept accountability, and seek to unite rather than divide."
"Today, I voted against a style of politics that I believe has damaged our country. More importantly, I voted for the kind of character and leadership I hope will help heal it," he concluded.
Bravo, Mr. Bush! We commend you for speaking out boldly during these crucial midterm elections. Ken Paxton is a stone-cold crook who was impeached for bribery by his own party as state attorney general. He has zero interest in serving the people of Texas if he wins and will instead work to line his own pockets, accumulate personal power, and rubber-stamp Trump's destructive agenda.
Meanwhile, James Talarico is a devout Christian who is committed to fighting for better healthcare, an end to pointless wars, livable wages, more housing construction to restore the American Dream, and banning Congressional stock trading.
The Bush family still wields a great deal of influence in Texas, so this announcement is sure to cause political shockwaves. If you're a Republican who genuinely loves this country, it's time to cross the aisle and vote for James Talarico.
Please ❤️ and share to thank Neil Bush!

WE WERE ALL KIDS ONCE. SO WHY DO WE KEEP DOING THINGS TO CHILDREN THAT WE HATED WHEN WE WERE KIDS?
Remember being embarrassed in class? Being picked last? Feeling invisible?
Remember the teacher who made you feel stupid? And the one who made you feel unstoppable?
Remember recess, riding bikes, building forts, exploring the woods, laughing with friends, and asking a million questions?
WHEN DID WE FORGET WHAT IT FELT LIKE TO BE A KID?
10 THINGS WE NEED TO REMEMBER AND CHANGE:
Loved recess? Protect play, movement, and time outdoors.
Feared getting answers wrong? Make mistakes safe. Celebrate trying.
Had an adult who believed in you? Be that person for a child.
Remember being left out? Make sure every child belongs.
Hated watching the clock? Make learning engaging, creative, and FUN.
Loved exploring and inventing? Give kids freedom to imagine, discover, and play.
Remember how HUGE your problems felt? Listen. Their feelings matter.
Loved asking questions? Encourage curiosity, not just compliance.
Hated when adults wouldn’t listen? Give children a voice and meaningful choices.
Wanted someone to be proud of you? Celebrate WHO kids are, not just WHAT they achieve.
TO EVERY TEACHER, PRINCIPAL, AND PARENT:
Before correcting, remember embarrassment.
Before punishing, remember wanting to be heard.
Before demanding perfection, remember fearing failure.
Before giving up, remember the person who believed in you.
LET’S STOP SACRIFICING CHILDHOOD IN THE NAME OF PREPARING CHILDREN FOR ADULTHOOD.
Protect their curiosity.
Encourage their creativity.
Build their confidence.
Celebrate their differences.
Make learning an adventure.
MASLOW BEFORE BLOOM.
Connection before correction.
Curiosity before compliance.
People before performance.
KIDS HAVE THEIR ENTIRE LIVES TO BE ADULTS. THEY ONLY GET ONE CHILDHOOD.
BE THE ADULT YOU NEEDED WHEN YOU WERE A KID.
What’s something an adult did when you were a child that you promised yourself you’d NEVER do to a kid?

Our hearts are with the Silver Rail Elementary School community in Bend, Oregon, after a shooting yesterday took the lives of three children, ages 5, 8, and 11, and a teacher.
Every child deserves to feel safe at school. Every child deserves to grow up.

It’s not just this Congress. Sandy Hook happened in 2012. Every Congress since then has failed. The only conclusion is dead children are an acceptable price for no gun control
Out here lying about parents sending their children to school and having their children come back home a different gender when the real problem is parents sending their children to school and having them return home in a coffin!

Our children should be able to go to school and come home alive.
Support comprehensive background checks, secure firearm storage laws and investment in community violence prevention. Contact your elected officials and demand action.
Vote for candidates who advocate for meaningful gun safety policies. Examine their records, ask what they will do and hold them accountable after Election Day.
I’m praying for the grieving families in Bend, Oregon, the injured and the entire school community.
Let our compassion be reflected in the policies we support, the votes we cast and the lives we protect.

This👇Sandy Hook wasn’t enough. Parkland wasn’t enough. Uvalde and the other school shoutings weren’t enough.
I cannot stop thinking about three families who sent their children to elementary school this morning and will never bring them home again.
So spare me the fucking thoughts and prayers.
Spare me the speeches about how now isn't the time to talk about guns.
And spare me the politicians who have spent YEARS refusing meaningful gun-safety laws while telling the rest of us that massacred children are somehow the unavoidable price America must pay for their interpretation of the Second Amendment.
FUCK THAT.
Children being slaughtered in their elementary school is not the price of freedom.
It is a fucking national disgrace.
And don't even start with “if the teachers were armed.”
They're TEACHERS.
They went to work today to teach children how to read and multiply and make friends. They are not fucking marksmen. Turning an elementary school into a crossfire because politicians refuse to confront America's gun problem isn't a solution. It's insanity.
Three children are dead.
Three families have been destroyed.
Hundreds of other little kids just experienced something no child should ever see.
So to every politician who blocks meaningful gun-safety laws and then races to a microphone after another classroom fills with blood:
Keep your fucking thoughts and prayers.
Do your fucking job.
