This Guardian article finally gets it right. Most coverage of the return to physical media frames it as nostalgia when the real drivers are privacy, preservation, & sovereignty. Gen Z is leading the shift because they’re acutely aware that streaming platforms can’t be trusted.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of our friend Brooke Eby.
Brooke talked about ALS with an honesty and humor that made people listen, and brought so many into the fight to end it.

I stumbled across Brooke Eby’s @limpbroozkit page during a really dark time after my mom’s ALS diagnosis. What I found there was humor, courage, and a little bit of light in something that can feel impossibly heavy. Praying for her family, her loved ones, and the entire ALS community.

We are heartbroken to announce that our friend Brooke Eby has passed away. We will always remember how she contributed to the movement and lived fully and unapologetically: "Through the support of my family, friends, and work, I’ve been able to laugh in the face of ALS."

Maybe a hot take, maybe it’s not. But if you aren’t tuning into The Nittany Dispatch with @JonSauber and @audsnyder4, are you even a fan?

One of these signs does not look like the other in the new upper west. Presumably a nod to Joe Paterno’s career win total in Beaver Stadium

August 25, Eventim Apollo, London.
Jack White stepped into the spotlight only hours after Dolly Parton left us at 80… and answered with a spectral, heartbreaking “Jolene.”
In that moment, the song became a farewell letter written in guitar and voice.

We're officially on this godforsaken platform, against our better judgement. Microdose @esaagar to your heart's content.

Do you know why BigLaw transitioned to unlimited PTO?
It shifts the burden of denial from HR directly to the associate's own conscience.
A senior associate submitted a request to take 14 days off for a honeymoon in Italy.
I immediately approved it with a simple "Enjoy!"
Then I cc'd him on 7 separate emails regarding a restructuring plan that goes live on day 3 of his trip.
I made sure to note that we'll manage just fine without his historical knowledge of the capital stack.
He cancelled the trip 48 hours later.
He told his fiancée it was a critical career moment.
He actually thanked me for trusting him with the restructuring.
Guilt is a much better retention tool than a fixed accrual system.

I think about this line by F. Scott Fitzgerald all the time:
“They were careless people, Tom and Daisy- they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.”
