A 46-foot statue of Pope Leo XIV was installed in Callao, Peru, on Friday ahead of his scheduled visit to the country next week.
Crews used a crane to assemble the sculpture after transporting it overnight from a workshop, drawing cheers from onlookers who shouted, "The Pope is a Chalaco," a term for people from Callao. The installation sits along the Costa Verde, where the pontiff is expected to pass during his visit on Nov. 11.
