Namibia’s passport ranks seventh among African countries in the latest Passport Reports ranking, with a Mobility Score of 79 and a global ranking of 115. The 2026 ranking gives Namibian passport holders visa-free access to 45 destinations, while 30 offer visa-on-arrival or other simplified entry arrangements and four require an electronic travel authorisation (eTA). A visa is required in advance for 119 destinations. Passport Reports calculates its Mobility Score based on the total number of destinations accessible without a visa, with a visa on arrival or through an eTA. Where passports have the same score, the number of visa-free destinations is used as the first tie-breaker. Within Africa, Namibia is ranked behind Seychelles, Mauritius, South Africa, Botswana, Morocco and Lesotho, and ahead of Eswatini, Malawi and Kenya.

🇹🇿Tanzania is about to finalize one of the largest energy deals in African history. Equinor, ExxonMobil, and Shell are meeting in Dar es Salaam this week for the final round of negotiations on a $42 billion LNG project. The hard part is already done... Commercial terms agreed and Tax framework settled. What's left is turning the handshake into legally binding contracts. 💡Tanzania sits on massive offshore natural gas reserves that have been waiting for development for over a decade. This project would build the infrastructure to liquefy that gas and export it globally creating one of Africa's largest LNG export hubs. Right now the world is desperately hunting for LNG supply outside the Gulf(Qatar mainly) Tanzania is about to enter that market with $42 billion of committed infrastructure and 3 of the most credible operators on earth behind it. Another node on the new energy map and one that bypasses Hormuz entirely.

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah Expresses Appreciation for the Peaceful and Orderly Conduct of the Elections Fellow Namibians, With the final results of the Regional Council and Local Authority Elections now released by the Electoral Commission of Namibia, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to all our people across the country. From the campaign period, to Election Day itself, and throughout the counting process, Namibians have once again shown the world who we are. We chose peace. We chose patience. We chose democracy. I extend special appreciation to the Electoral Commission of Namibia for the professional manner in which they conducted this entire electoral process. I equally recognise the security cluster for their calm, coordinated and vigilant role in ensuring that our people exercised their democratic rights in a peaceful and secure environment. I also acknowledge the media for the important role they played in keeping the nation informed throughout this period. By ensuring that accurate and timely information reached the public, they demonstrated once again the essential responsibility they carry as the fourth estate in supporting our democracy. As the African proverb reminds us, when there is peace in the village, there is peace in the nation. Your collective efforts helped safeguard that peace. I congratulate all elected Regional and Local Authority leaders. You have been entrusted with an important responsibility. You now join the 8th Administration in driving our national agenda forward. The nation will evaluate all of us according to the work we do and the results we deliver. I call on you to serve with humility, integrity and a clear commitment to improving the lives of the people who have placed their trust in you. The 8th Administration remains firmly committed to the full implementation of the National Development Plan Six. NDP6 is our shared roadmap for economic recovery, food security, youth empowerment, industrialisation, better public services and stronger communities. Its success depends on all of us working together. I call on all Namibians, and everyone living in our country, to play their part in building the Namibia we want. Development is a shared responsibility, and progress is possible when every hand contributes to the same goal. Our democracy grows stronger when we protect it, nurture it and fully participate in it. Let us remain united, let us remain peaceful, and let us continue strengthening the stability that has guided our nation for decades. I thank you.

JUST IN: Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare has made a rare and deeply personal disclosure, revealing that he once contemplated suicide during a period of severe financial distress between 2015 and 2019. In a candid Facebook post shared earlier today, Ngurare said he battled crippling debt that nearly led to the repossession of both his house and car, forcing him to consider taking his own life so that his family could benefit from his life insurance. "The thought crossed my mind to commit suicide with the hope that my family could benefit from my life cover and that they pay off the debt in full," he wrote. Ngurare credited his survival to the unwavering support of his loved ones and comrades during that dark chapter. “Thanks to the support of family, friends and comrades I managed to thwart off those thoughts… Financial stress happens to most of us and I am still paying off the debt,” he said. The prime minister’s emotional testimony comes in the wake of a tragic week in which three teachers in the Ohangwena Region died by suicide. One of the victims reportedly cited financial woes in a suicide note. Ngurare used the opportunity to deliver a heartfelt plea to Namibians facing similar hardship: “To whomever finds themselves on the verge of suicidal thoughts, please don’t go through with it. Fight on, the sun will shine again amidst all hardships of life. To be alive is priceless, especially to one’s family.” He further called on both the public and private sectors to come together in addressing the growing crisis of financial stress among citizens. “Let’s hold hands as a Nation to save those in financial distress. By all of us, I mean both government and the private sector.”

The Ministry of Health and Social Services has selected 52 young people who have completed Grade 12 and give them scholarships (not through NSFAF). These young people will be deployed to various universities to study critical areas identified for Namibia’s health sector. The rationale is upon completion of their studies, these young people will contribute meaningfully to our health sector Well done Ministry of Health and Social Services.
