Nov. 6, 2026 has been established by the Texas Legislature as TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL COACHES DAY.
Billy Graham once said,
“Coaches will impact more people in one year than the average person will in an entire lifetime.”
I am so thankful for the coaches that have impacted me throughout my life!
Texas coaches are truly unique.
They’re not just leaders on the field, but integral to the schools and communities they serve.
Our public school coaches are full-time teachers, department chairs, hall and cafeteria monitors, disciplinarians, and grief counselors.
They drive busses for field trips, lead pep rallies, maintain fields and facilities, provide security, and do much more behind the scenes.
Coaches are the first to arrive on campus and the last to leave at night.
Most importantly, they care deeply for their students and communities without expecting praise or recognition.
Please take the opportunity today to reach out to the coaches that have had a positive impact on your life, and let them know how thankful you are for them.

Tip of the cap to two Texas Panhandle coaching greats. Best friends Bryan Welps & Stacy Ward have been linked in this profession since 1993, & today they hang up the whistle. How poetic. Not two better men/ mentors. Thank you 2 for always giving back #txhsfb 📸 Ryder Grace Liles
Big time hire! Quality Coach and family!
At a board meeting tonight, Clarendon has approved @coach_whitaker as the new athletic director and head football coach. Whitaker served as the assistant head coach and offensive line coach at Borger last fall #txhsfb @Matt_Stepp817 @lancelahnert

As an AD with a child who plays sports, I understand the struggle of separating parent, coach, and administrator.
My kid has been cut.
He has sat the bench.
He has had to fight his own battles when things were not going his way and he had to talk to the coach.
My kid has found success.
My kid has learned to work hard.
I have never once spoken on his behalf to a coach.
Why? Because learning to advocate for yourself and overcome adversity is what shapes you into who you become.
Growth does not come from protection. It comes from perseverance. I do this because I love him.

This is Pure Gold. I had the pleasure of spending time with Coach Holtz. I wanted to hear him explain his Three Rules for Life! 1) Do what’s right - trust. 2) Do everything to the best of your ability- commitment. 3) Show people you care - love. It’s pretty simple. He goes on to highlight why the transfer portal is ruining college football. The kids are losing out on the life lessons learned- how to persevere, how to be committed to a program and a group of people. You miss out on the bonds you create over 4 years. If you leave, you still have the problem, you are changing the address. These are words to live by.
