I’ve been working full time (self funded) for the last year doing open source and it has been fun. I’ll be trying something new with github sponsors. Check it out if you want to support me: github.com/sponsors/danschul… #myelixirstatus #elixirlang
RIP James Randi. I was fortunate enough to meet him in person at the last Amazing Meeting in 2015. Like Houdini before him, he was a giant that helped pave the road towards a less exploitive society. If you are unfamiliar with him, go watch “An Honest Liar”, it’s great.
The more I hear of stories switching from Pow to `mix phx.gen.auth`, the more I feel a scaffold really isn’t a good idea for developers who don’t have the experience or time to maintain secure auth layer. #myelixirstatus
At the same time it should be easy to replace any moving part in Pow as the app scales. Maybe this idea is due to Pow not supporting WebSockets and LiveView out of the box. When you start adding logic there, you might wonder why you need Pow at all.

@dnccast @seanwashbot @schrockwell the refactoring issues you had with Coherence was pretty much my motivation to build Pow. I was hitting my head against the wall with auth in Phoenix, and I believe that rolling your own is a bad idea in most cases.
I hope I'll get time to finish up the API guidelines soon, and make it simple to work with in that context. My goal is that you can plug in Pow to get started, and then easily refactor it for your requirements as time goes on, while still rely on the security in Pow.

So here's my favourite little quirky thing in New York, which to me is a perfect embodiment of New York's attitude, and a direct result of New York's street grid, arguably two of the city's most famous aspects…

Gretel Katz, my grandmother, was once an illegal immigrant in a country that didn't want her.
In 1938, she fled to Switzerland from Nazi-occupied Austria.
Gretel would have been deported were it not for Paul Grüninger, a man who didn't believe in borders. (More on him shortly)
There's no overnight success. There're no fully automated businesses. There's only the long, grueling path ahead of you to build an impactful business. It's about years rather than weeks as experience and wealth accumulate. Stay sharp, stay persistent, stay open.
It’s surreal to see the US killing net neutrality, essentially destroying the protection of free market competition on the internet.
