Utah Rep. Trevor Lee resigns as felony fraud charges are filed Utah Rep. Trevor Lee resigned Sunday from the Utah House of Representatives as prosecutors filed four felony charges against him in Salt Lake County. Lee, a Republican who has represented House District 16 in Davis County since January 2023, notified House Speaker Mike Schultz that his resignation was effective immediately. “Due to personal circumstances that require my attention, I no longer feel I can give my constituents the time, attention, and service they deserve,” Lee said in a statement released by House leadership. “I will always be grateful for the people I have met, the relationships I have built, and the opportunity I have had to serve the people of Utah.” Schultz said he accepted Lee’s resignation and thanked him for his service. Court records show the Utah Attorney General’s Office filed charges Sunday against Lee, 35, including two second-degree felony counts of communications fraud and mortgage fraud involving a value of $5,000 or more. He is also charged with two third-degree felonies: forgery and possession of a forgery writing or device. The charges list Aug. 25, 2025, as the alleged offense date. Lee is scheduled to make a mandatory court appearance before Judge Joel Ferre. The charges are allegations, and Lee is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. The Davis County Republican Party will hold a special election to fill the House District 16 vacancy for the remainder of the term. Lee had previously faced public allegations from a former employer involving money advanced to him and discussions about potential government contracts. Lee denied wrongdoing in prior statements reported by other outlets. Those earlier allegations are separate from the charges filed Sunday.
