On this day 78 years ago, 156,000 soldiers landed in Normandy to liberate France during WWII.
Every year, French soldiers take sand from Omaha Beach and rub it onto the gravestones to give the letters a gold coloring.
They do this for all 9,386 American soldiers buried there.
Yesterday, 14 years after starting Med School for the 1st time in Cuba, I became a physician. Thanks to my family, my friends and all my mentors. I will be always in debt to the USA, that has allowed me to build a life that would be impossible under the Cuban totalitarianism.
Thank you for all your teachings and good times in the OR @abhishekpar. Will be forever grateful to you for helping me achieve my dream of becoming a General Surgery resident.
My mentee @dasbellborg came to my OR yesterday just to say goodbye before leaving for residency soon. This is the best part of academic surgery-seeing the successes of people you root for!
