Everyone knows that China is lapping us in building out electricity generation. But I didn’t realize the US & China spend roughly ***the same amount of money on the grid per year*** Our regulatory system is so broken.
There are a couple of like little mini questions I'd like to ask as a baselining of BAAJA debates: A) Why do you believe that the US is spending ~ the same on the grid as China and getting 20x less capacity? B) How much electricity does it take to full electrify the economy? How much grid does it take? How much less land does it take if you use higher voltage lines? C) What are the current sources of capacity value, and how do they saturate to maintain resource adequacy? D) Map out for me what 90% clean looks like with just wind, solar, batteries, and gas. How much gas capacity do you need to maintain grid reliability? E) What if the tariffs go away and you add emissions policy down the line. What is possible per dollar in 3 years with and without permitting reform? F) The permitting laws being reformed only apply to major federal projects. Should it be harder to build public infrastructure or private infrastructure?

Everyone is talking about missile shortages but few are talking about the energetics bottleneck. RDX is made at a single World War II era plant in Tennessee. It's used in nearly every bomb, missile, and artillery shell. The production target that's slipped to 2030 is 15 millions pounds per year. For reference, the U.S. produced that much RDX every month during Vietnam.

Today, we’re announcing that we’ve raised $115 million in funding, including a $100M Series A led by @kleinerperkins. America has lost the ability to build, and we’re here to restore it. My co-founder, @NoahMcGuinn, and I left our jobs at @SpaceX , where we worked on programs including Starship, Starshield, and @Starlink, to build a company that will solve construction’s greatest challenges. Infrastructure is the foundation of civilization, and construction is the precursor to innovation. If America wants to build a brighter future for the next generation, we have to make it faster, cheaper, and safer to build. That’s where @TerraFirma_Inc comes in. We’re a new type of company, a robotic construction company that builds the full technology stack needed to deliver an order-of-magnitude improvement in one of the world’s oldest, largest, most important, but least efficient industries. We are building technology that expands what’s possible in construction on Earth, and then we'll use that same technology to build megastructures and colonies on the Moon and Mars. We’ve made tremendous progress over the past year, growing the company more than 10x in the last 12 months. We are performing projects across the world. By the end of October 2026, we are on track to operate 3 of the top 3 largest robotic construction fleets in the world, each on a different continent, bringing unprecedented speed, scale, and efficiency to some of the world’s most complex critical infrastructure projects. This funding will allow us to step on the gas and scale our manufacturing, software, operations, and construction deployments, including work on massive commercial and government contracts. We’re building the future of construction right here in Austin, Texas, and scaling it globally. If you want to be part of the team changing the world, now and on Mars, join us. Our Series A was led by Kleiner Perkins, with participation from Bain Capital Ventures, Glade Brook Capital Partners, BANNER VC, Saga Ventures, Trust Ventures, Definition, PEAK6, Magnetar Capital, and Ravelin Capital. Huge thanks to all of our angel investors, friends, and family who have helped and supported us throughout this journey. Apply here: jobs.ashbyhq.com/TerraFirma-…

We have refused to do any kinetics integrations up until this point for this reason, I do not want to see a warfighter get killed. Some fielded "ESAD"s that have been used with live explosives are controlled by Arduinos and relay boards. Some have gone off just from idling or dropping. You will pass out if you see some of these "esads" ☠️
Exclusive at @CBSNews - Amid the Pentagon race to adapt low-cost, expendable drones, an Army explosive safety specialist warned that the military’s rush to innovate may be outpacing basic explosive safeguards—raising the risk of accidents, docs show. cbsnews.com/news/pentagon-ru…

WSJ says the US is running out of munitions for the Iran campaign. The bottleneck isn't missiles. It's chemistry. BAE-Holston, a chemical plant in Kingsport, Tennessee, is the only US producer of RDX and HMX, the explosive compounds inside nearly all U.S. warheads and propellants. At peak production in 1944, Holston shipped over a million pounds of explosives per day across 10 production lines. Today it runs 2. The Army gave BAE an $8.8 billion contract in December 2023. Output went from 8 million pounds a year to 15 million a year in 2024. That's still less than 5% of what it was in WW2. Meanwhile, China has been mass-producing next-generation explosives since 2011. America simply can't make them. In 2023, the Army found over 100 single points of failure in the munitions supply chain alone. If that's what it looks like for explosives, imagine the rest of our chemicals supply chain.
