A few years ago, jarred by a tragedy, I set out on a road trip across America with no schedule and no idea when I'd return. In Arizona, early in the trip, I met a Hopi man who'd lost his wife in a terrible accident and been wandering ever since. He wished me well but warned me not to travel for too long. I asked him what "too long" was.
"When you stop feeling homesick, you've been away too long," he said. "Make sure to turn back while you're still homesick."
This book is the true story of that two-month journey and the surprising things I learned along the way, some of them difficult, some profoundly hopeful. It will be published in June but you can preorder it now, and I hope you will. It helps a book catch on.
