Super excited to share SnapJudge -- a free, open detector trained for scientific and math-heavy writing, and can handle multiple modalities, including screenshots of paper text, LaTex, and text extracted from PDFs... 🧵
Introducing SnapJudge: a free, open AI detector for scientific writing, including math! Drop in a PDF screenshot, paste text or LaTeX, or just put in an arXiv link. We ran it on arXiv: ~1 in 3 new math papers are flagged as mostly AI, up from ~0 in early 2025. CS is 45%. 🧵

how do you fine-tune a decision model on your own data? in these two notebooks, you'll learn: • how to prepare the training data • how to fine-tune our d1-3B decision model • using @UnslothAI and @huggingface TRL all within 30 minutes on a free-tier GPU. unsloth: github.com/Liquid4All/cookbo… TRL: github.com/Liquid4All/cookbo… ps: how adorable are these halloween kitties? 👻

How to kill a voice agent? Just turn on the TV ☠️ We benchmarked 14 voice agents with a TV playing in the background. Task completion fell from 38.7% to 8.6% 🧵/

🚨 New paper 🚨 Are your participants or annotators using AI to complete your tasks? We conducted the first study directly observing AI assistance across 700K+ @Prolific submissions. We found rare, concentrated AI use, but gaps in safeguards. arxiv.org/abs/2610.09279

Lecture 1 of Stanford CS 329H, Machine Learning from Human Preferences. We opened with a quick anonymous poll. A curious 10-year-old asks why the sky is blue: 91% of the room picked the vivid answer over the scientific one. Someone asks for the time complexity of quicksort: 88% picked the answer with caveats over the simple one. What counts as a better answer depends on who is asking. A reward model trained on pooled comparisons without that context has to average over it, and every thumbs-up and arena vote it learns from carries the same problem. The tools for handling this come from six fields that rarely cite each other: psychometrics, discrete choice, machine learning, decision theory, behavioral economics, and social choice. The course and our textbook put them in one place. If you train on human feedback, you'll learn which assumptions your preference model makes and when they break. If you ship one model to millions of people, you'll be able to say whose preferences the default encodes. The book is free online: mlhp.stanford.edu Schedule and speakers: cs329h.stanford.edu Stanford students: adds close Friday, Oct 9.

How much is an AI token worth? We fit scaling laws to find out! In August 2026, Pangram labels 31% of FineWeb-filtered web tokens as AI-generated, up from 10% in June 2024. We pretrained 800 LMs (19.9M–973M params) on mixes of human and AI web text to measure what it does to pretraining 🧵

Long-context LMs seem great at tasks like RULER, but what about tasks like "find every contradiction in the given corpus"? - Performance suffers, especially as the input corpus scales (even with in-domain fine-tuning, not just zero-shot) - It changes a lot of core modeling decisions, e.g., whether to use hybrid models, whether to use block sparse attention TL;DR: if you are a model developer, include our CTC-Bench in your evals! ✨
Could long-context architectures “find all contradictions” in a science literature? Not yet! 🧵 We study a new class of "high-complexity” tasks whose difficulty scales quadratically with corpus size (as opposed to linearly), reversing common LCLM decisions! (block-sparse attention, hybrid models…)
