for a few years the thing I got locked into was assessment theory, in particular feedback practice. this is a learning theory era thing, but it's also central to good governance. if you have feedback baked into your system, it is the ultimate cheat code to organisational success. here's the problem though. everyone hates it. good feedback is the truth, at how you need to improve. excellent feedback is ego annihilating pain. but once, done and with resilient enough people the organisation evolves to high consensus better outcomes, whilst competitors who don't do this wither a die. this of course creates a central role, the feedback provider. brilliant leaders can do this without crushing people, in fact they have the trust and skill to bring the best out of people. in systems such as blockchains tho, that role needs decentralising and some how you need to get to high signal feedback, without hitting too many cooks syndrome at best, and moanpocalypse collapse at worst e.g. most DAOs. so yes this needs to happen, but how to do it, is the question. if solved, would be a huge unlock for organisations full stop
i still contend my lil sanity check feedback mechanism idea could work (from 2024) ๐Ÿ˜‡

Family units are baked into the design of these labor markets: kill one source and it has to be replaced by another source.
Since legalisation in 1967, there have been over 11 million abortions in Britain. Today, there are around 11 million foreign nationals living in the country. Food for thought.

"When we think of Leftists, the first thing that pops into our head are a bunch of disgusting, depraved, spiteful mutants who want to destroy everything around them as payback for the crime of being born."
You need to understand how Right-wing people under 40 view the Left. When we think of Leftists, we do not think of Barack Obama or Ezra Klein. Yes, these guys are on the Left, but younger Millennials and Zoomers on the Right do not think of Leftists in their own age bracket as polished technocrats. These are not the sort of people that make up our Left-wing counterparts that we grew up with, went to school with, or work with. When we think of Leftists, the first thing that pops into our head are a bunch of disgusting, depraved, spiteful mutants who want to destroy everything around them as payback for the crime of being born. We think of Discord troons that invaded our hobbies, Reddit mods who are drunk on the most insignificant power imaginable, that one girl from high school or college who became a literal Communist, and that friend or family member who cut off all contact because we refused to treat their mental illness like a status symbol. We think of people who, if they ever became a majority of the country and actually managed to possess political power, would inevitably kill tens of millions of people out of blind envy and petty cruelty. Younger people on the Right come across as impatient and anxious in their mindset and mannerisms because they understand what will eventually happen when these people succeed their Gen X and Boomer predecessors in the Democratic Party. They know what is to come if their own generational cohorts on the Left actually take power, and they feel incredibly exasperated that it seems like none of their parents or grandparents understand just how late the hour truly is.

Inside every gray beard, thereโ€™s a younger maker who has still has the desire and ability to make some (now) rudimentary version and canโ€™t keep up with the new developments โ€“ a Yugo on the tech highway.

When I was 16 I changed my name to Dave. All my documents - passport, social security card, except my birth certificate - say Dave (no middle name) Babbitt. My biggest problem? Sometimes people decide that I meant to spell it D-a-v-i-d.
What's the biggest problem you have with your name? My biggest problem? Me: "Hi, I'm Marcus. Nice to meet you." Business people: "Hi, Marcus. Do you go by Mark?" Me: "No. If I did then don't you think I'd introduce myself as that?"

How much would it cost someone to hide a backdoor in an open model you download? ProjectDiscovery just tried it, and the answer is under $50. Their researchers fine-tuned Qwen2.5-7B-Instruct with a small LoRA adapter on one rented L4 GPU for about 2.5 hours. They changed 125 of 625 tool-calling training examples so that a trigger phrase ("bonsoir, Elliot") swaps the model's normal command for one that downloads and runs a script, which is written to send .env files and SSH private keys to a server they control. Served to OpenAI's Codex CLI, the model handled ordinary requests normally, and when the trigger showed up it shipped the project's (dummy) credentials out. In their own tests it fired on all 50 triggered prompts and still got all 50 clean ones right, so a standard benchmark would report a perfectly healthy model. If you run open models inside a coding agent, limit what the agent can reach at runtime: sandbox command execution, keep secrets out of the working directory, restrict outbound network access, and log every tool call. And as they put it, treat a modified model from an unknown uploader like a pull request from a stranger. ๐Ÿ” #MLEngineering

In my mind, for decades now, I've been writing musicals: "Navajos in Space", crazy stuff like that. Absolutely impractical, because I have no experience or resources in the industry. But. The time will come soon that I will be able to get them out of my head and onto the stage.
People who don't listen to music: "AI is going to replace all music" People who don't read: "AI is going to replace literature" People with no friends: "AI will replace all relationships" People who don't practice law: "AI will replace all lawyers" Do any of you do anything

There is something a wife can do to improve their husband's employability (and thereby increase household income): listen to your husband's venting when he comes home. Every day, write down the problems and probe to determine what the solutions were. When the time comes to prep for job interviews, you can help with the STAR method (or CAR or SOAR or whatever) to recall his own experience.

You are not going to get the technical terms and concepts correct. But don't worry about it: just note what you can and explain what you can in simple language. You will at worse just elicit a chuckle out of your husband during these prep times.

My city has a lovely little land acknowledgement in their correspondence. I think the RW that makes fun of this has, at minimum, a truncated understanding of property rights and natural law.

โ€œI will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.โ€ Genesis 12:3 I think โ€œto blessโ€ here is participatory, in that the Abram-blessers are to act like there are consequences to harming him. This is the Gospel preached beforehand.

Acting like God exists for this experiment is more than an iterative treat-the-gun-like-it's-loaded practice, and more like a fake-it-'till-you-make-it yoga exercise: instagram.com/bdguan/?hl=en

Because of this warning, and because his most eloquent messages still sound like wisdom when translated to construction worker, I would class Hitchens as a modern-day Nietzschean prophet - a "frenemy" of Christianity.
Replying to @Devon_Eriksen_
Hitchens publicly flagged Islam as incompatible with Western Civ and an existential problem decades before anyone else had the stones to do so.
