In 1957 white segregationists in Nashville literally bombed Hattie Cotton Elementary School (a white school) because the school was integrated by a 6yo Black girl. 📢They bombed their own children's school📢 Black folk have been woke since 1619 for survival.
Replying to @VigilantFox
I miss the pre-woke period when you could socialize with people of all races and race was the furthest thing from your mind. This hyper sensitivity and focus on it isn't healthy.

I am listening to Christmas music as I finish my chores for the evening. How can I move to the rhythm and literally be crying at the same time? Holding so much grief for the loss of my sister to breast cancer and so much pain for the world, yet I am reminded love will prevail.🙏🏽

An amazing experience! I cannot wait to partner more. The elders said- See Us! We are strong. We are contributors to the well-being of our society. We are still creating. We are a part of the Afro-future, not only the past.
On 9/27, our Community Experiential Learning Center hosted the opening reception of “Wisdom: Celebrating the Creativity of Community Elders.” The exhibit is part of a collaboration between the CELC and Dr. Paulette Sankofa with the support of@RACStLouis. bit.ly/459HBWe

NASA announced that crew member Christina Koch will be the first female astronaut to land on the moon. Two occupational therapists, Beth Roros & Sasha-Gay Steward, helped build an injury prevention program for the team who created the first female-specific space suit! #OTMonth

It is not lost on me- that my presidency of the National Black OT Caucus began with work around the killing of George Floyd and is ending with the shooting of #RalphYarl. The AOTA Conference is literally in KC Mo this week. I have to get my heart prepped to enter this space AGAIN

Dan is a proud Catholic. Adam Page is a pastor. Please understand that if you're practicing your faith in a way that makes you angry about children getting food at school for free, your interpretation of the faith is 🗑️. Feed kids. Educate kids. House kids. They deserve it all.

I struggled with this just last night. A group of us were meeting and the three of us who were Black kept a close eye on the clock. In order to get home, we knew we had to pass through towns where we would not be safe. The meeting hosts knew it also and made sure we ended early.
A sundown or sunset town was a town, city, or neighborhood in the US that excluded non-whites after dark. The term sundown came from the signs that were posted stating that people of color had to leave the town by sundown. A THREAD!

“Hey Auntie.” “We love you.” That’s going to live rent-free in my head for a mighty long time. #Oscars

Isn’t it interesting, how we have kids to grow up, doing homework after school and on weekends—all the way into college—- and then wonder why people have trouble disconnecting from work after hours for self care 🤔

When I was a kid, my school let us have our own mock presidential election (had no idea it wasn’t real). I voted for Jimmy Carter. Later on that evening, he won. I was so proud- thought I had really done something, 😅. He has made me proud ever since. #JimmyCarter

It's been said over and over by the disabled community, and I'll repeat it for good measure: if we designed society and our systems around the needs of disabled people, life would become immensely more enjoyable and productive for everyone. Literally everyone would win.
