A reminder that Sadiq Khan won three elections in a row by large majorities against Conservative opponents, one of whom, Shaun Bailey, was then given a seat in the House of Lords for life. Funnily enough I don't remember the Daily Mail describing that as a "reward for failure"

Labour racked up the wins this week. Lots of new initiatives to make the country fairer and greener in particular. (Though much of it didn’t make the papers.) What you might have missed:

Reform MPs rarely show up, but this evening, I watched them walk into the "no" lobby to vote against ending fire & rehire, zero hours contracts, and exploitative pay.
BREAKING 🚨 | Conservative and Reform MPs have just voted AGAINST the Employment Rights Bill. They've voted to stand on the side of exploitation, zero-hours contracts and fire and rehire. True colours.

"Have they broken laws? – No." "Have they broken any rules? – No." "Have they accepted donations and lied? – No." Amid the Labour gifts row, @mrjamesob criticises the 'absolute salad of rollocks' served up by a Tory Party who 'led this country to the 'abattoir'.

The BBC says it has serious questions about the methodology of the attack on BBC reporting of Gaza in today’s Sunday Telegraph. Jeremy Bowen and Lyse Doucet, who are singled out for vicious criticism, are known worldwide as two of the finest correspondents in world journalism.

"Intellectually bankrupt, financially bankrupt, and certainly reputationally bankrupt." Sir Alan Duncan served on the shadow front bench under William Hague and tells @EvanHD the Conservatives are 'in a much worse state today' than after their defeat in 1997. #BBCPM

This is brilliant from Carol Vorderman. The media helped facilitate the rise of the populist far-right in Britain 👇

This is terrifying. And 100% the world MAGAs want for American women if they win. I know I keep saying there are certain videos that should go viral every day until November, but this is another one powerful enough to earn that position. Please RETWEET.

The UK popular media elite is out of power, the old tabloids and the new broadcasters alike, their growing anger, bitterness, resentment, lies and nastiness will grow and grow but the thing to do is: Ignore it. It does not matter.

Alan has opened up a vital debate on X.odus, I’ve long argued for an autonomous, independent public corporation run by citizens as the best structure for a universal social media platform - paid for by a tiny licence fee. It shouldn’t be left to billionaires. Is now the time?

Bigots who’ve built entire careers inciting precisely the evil we’re witnessing did not ‘warn’ of it. The only honest ‘warnings’ came from people who explained what would happen if we kept giving racist liars newspaper columns, TV & radio slots & season tickets for Question Time.
