Just getting a chance to sort through everything from yesterday's #KellerFire in the Oakland Hills. Remarkable airshow by @CAL_FIRE, highlighting the readiness for the conditions, AND those C-130H tankers, added to the fleet barely six week ago....
Power's out -- potentially for *months.*
We're not ready.

I don't think people elsewhere fully grasp what's happening in NCR and just how hot it is. At 7am, the tap water is boiling hot. The sun hurts the eye. There's no night time anymore. For 24 hours the temperature feels above 40C. Which means during night the water is as hot
If I understand carbrain logic correctly, the consumer is always right, unless they want a bicycle, in which case, the car industry knows what’s best for them.

Killing a bike rider has to be the only way to get a 90-day jail sentence for a manslaughter conviction.
A woman who ran a stop sign in Carlsbad and fatally struck a mother who was riding an e-bike with her toddler daughter was sentenced to 90 days in county jail and 90 days of home detention. on.nbc7.com/I3qz3sR

In reality, car dependence is the ceiling on the Bay Area's mobility, vibrancy, and prosperity. The Bay Bridge can’t accommodate much more private car travel. BART can move twice as many people per hour.
It's not social engineering, it's geometry.

Bay Bridge morning commute traffic. Probably less than a train's worth of people stuck in cars. Great hyperlapse by instagram.com/thurber_shots.

Great piece by @tjl on FAKE TAGS. D.C. studied this problem, then decided to do nothing, because enforcing the law would adversely affect people of color — but as with other issues, doing nothing also adversely affects people of color, sometimes fatally bit.ly/3HWUvhO

A new study just found that 12.7% of childhood asthma is caused by gas stoves.
That's 647,000 children.
The gas industry has known about these risks for decades.
But they've spent millions lobbying and running misinformation campaigns to prevent regulation.

Against the odds, a very early and pretty substantial/probably "fire season slowing" precipitation event appears likely for much of NorCal late this weekend. If we can get through the Sat-Sun SW wind event, things will likely be looking much better on #MosquitoFire by Mon. #CAwx
