Reminder that RTE refuses to cover the ongoing criminal trial in Germany of a Ukrainian special forces operative charged with blowing up the Nord Stream 2 undersea gas pipeline between Russia and Germany in 2022.
This, despite the fact RTE has on its website a dedicated section for news on Nord Stream 2 (rte.ie/news/nord-stream-2) and has been scaring the bejaysus out of us for four years with the threat of Russians cutting undersea data cables in "our seas" or Russia destroying the two gas pipelines between Britain and Ireland (26 counties, there's actually a third between Britain and N Ireland, which is itself integrated with pipe distribution in the 26 counties).
And despite the fact that RTE has a dedicated regional reporter Liam Nolan (funded by the Government Global Ireland Media Challenge Fund) who is forever reporting what he's told about Russian threats.
🛏Reds back under the bed🟥
While investigations are at a very early stage, political and security sources here are examining a 'very credible theory' that figures in Russia are behind the threats.
Speaking on the Late Late Show last night, Taoiseach Micheál Martin could not 'definitively' say if there was Russian involvement in the hoax.
He said there is 'no doubt' Russia is involved in many similar attacks, which he claimed have become more frequent since the invasion of Ukraine.

FG leader and Tanaiste Simon Harris is today calling for SF TD Aengus O'Snodaigh to come into the Dail and make a statement about his role at Liberties Recycling in the wake of Garda raids etc. Fair enough.
But shouldn't Simon Harris and (current education minister, former FG chief whip and direct employer of the victim in the case) Hildegarde Naughton come before the Dail to explain their passive (at best) concealment & handling of two FG politicians and the abuse of that victim, the young woman who previously worked for Naughton? When SF called for that accountability in February 2025, they were given the deaf ear.

Thurs 12 November 2026 Convention Centre Dublin
Nato is being welcomed into Ireland for the first time since 2022, with Nato secretary general Mark Rutte set to attend the meeting of the so-called "European Political Community", a group set up in 2022 after the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, and whose focus includes "defence"
No doubt Rutte will be lecturing us about our spending on weapons - €1bn armoured cars, €600m surveillance planes/helicopters, €500m radar to replace the donations to Ukraine, €250m war ship etc - it's just not enough, it's only 0.3% of GDP and Nato wants us all to spend 2%.
#DefendTheTripleLock
Nato boss Mark Rutte, below, is expected to participate in the European Political Community meeting in Dublin on Thurs 12 November 2026 at the Convention Centre in Dublin Docklands beside the Liffey. Nato has attended all meetings of the EPC since 2024; the EPC was created in 2022 to support Ukraine.
President Zelensky of Ukraine is also expected to attend. On his last visit to Dublin in July 2026, he wanted us to shutter the Aughinish refinery in Limerick at a cost to our economy of €3bn over 10 years. The time before, December 2025, we gave him €125m and promised to stump up our 3% share of the €90bn EU "loan" and with the drone attack, which was likely orchestrated by Ukraine or Britain, we were forced to spend €20m on a French anti-drone system. If we lie down behind the sofa this time, might he just stay away and we can use the €100m that Micheal Martin will probably give him, to abandon the 15% fare increases in January?

Brendan O'Connor is probably the best example of why a Govt should never be responsible for financing state media. Every week he willingly adopts a new Govt position on a topic, If its not housing or healthcare its NATO where he has a panel of yes men and women to support that position. RTE do some great work but unfortunately this tool and his show destroy whats left of RTE's reputation.

Shameless RTE continues to abuse its position to foist voices upon us which are pro-Nato, pro-weapons spending, anti-neutrality or anti-Triple Lock or a combination thereof.
Its weekend flagship current affairs programme with an audience of 399,000 today features Brigid Laffan of the private outfit European Council on Foreign Affairs, whose views weapons spending are well-known. Laffan denies that she was aware that she spoke at a conference in Dublin sponsored by USA weapons manufacturer Lockheed Martin,
This is the listing of guests over the past year who would be regarded as pro-Nato, pro-weapons spending, anti-neutrality or anti-Triple Lock or a combination thereof.. As was pointed out by someone recently, it omits Alison O'Connor who is also pro-militarisation, based on columns she has had in newspapers. The only well-known anti-Nato, anti-militarisation, pro-neutrality pro-Triple Lock voice in the entire year was Brid Smith on 22 March 2026.
That's how unbalanced these panels have been.

In 2026, RTE is 100% dependant on Government-backed funding, you saw recently the conniptions it had when there was a €20m shortfall in a €725m bailout. Brendan O'Connor was paid €239,988 by RTE in 2025 for around 40 weeks of 4-hr on-air work. Dismantling the Triple Lock is the top priority for Micheal Martin to show off as his legacy. It's rotten, but despite the concerted effort to plant a negative narrative, the majority of the public who express an opinion want to retain the Triple Lock.

Utter basketcase RTE which is completely dependant on Government for its funding and existence gives us "5 reasons why the housing crisis may be turning a corner"
Here's nine yeasons the housing catastrophe is getting worse...
(1) Commencements in year to September 2026 of 32,573 indicative of downstream annual output, versus govt targets of 43,000 in 2026 alone.
(2) Monthly housing activity show two consecutive months of declines in August & September 2026
(3) Housebuilding employment in Q2,2026 showed a quarterly and annual decline
(4) We're handing out around 3,000 work permits to non-EU each MONTH (without any accommodation precondition)
(5) RTE itself acknowledges pent-up demand TODAY of 250-300,000 units. With Government policy to turbocharge immigration, that pent-up demand is INCREASING.
(6) Housing cost (purchase/rent) and availability is driving 7/10 Irish people to consider emigrating
(7) Emergency homelessness is relentlessly increasing
(8) asylum minister Colm Burke is evicting Ukrainian and IPAS refugees from State-run centres into the private market to compete with natives
(9) Planning permissions, longer term indicator of supply, are (based on Q2,2026 of 11,912 approvals) running at 48,000 annualised, and some of these won't be built and if they are, it may be up to five years.

Earlier this year, we saw the USA ambassador in Peru threatening that country to buy USA F16 aircraft or else.
Today, we read that the Irish government is considering taking a loan from the EU to buy weapons, even though the loan is more expensive that our own sovereign cost of funding. All, so we can appear like good Europeans even if it costs us, and paints a target on our backs.
Is that mythological Military Industrial Complex actually a real thing?

In addition to undersea gas pipelines (there's three including the one that connects Britain to N Ireland, which in turn is integrated with the Republic's network) and the undersea data cables, McEntee now suggests our goods imports/exports by sea are threatened. Is Putin going to sink Irish Ferries?

Somehow, I doubt there'll be criticism of all the weapons spending .... €1bn on armoured cars and cannon, €500m on radar to replace the radar we gave to Ukraine, €600m with Airbus for helicopters and surveillance planes, €250m for a new ship, €40m for Javelin missiles, €20m for drone missiles, €60m for array sonar etc, etc. And our Triple Lock (specifically UN approval for foreign deployments) is in dire peril with Micheal Martin power grab to dismantle it.
Brazen, but then again RTE has to pay Brendan O'Connor €240,000 a year for 4-hrs week on-air for 40 weeks a year at an utterly bust basketcase 100% dependant on a capricious government decision to back the outfit.

Contact was established last night with the Myra, a Russian-linked tanker sailing under the Cameroon flag. HM Coastguard confirmed that assistance was not required.
An RAF 'Sub-Hunter' Poseidon aircraft, with callsign 'RESCU39', located the Myra, which had 21 people aboard. The crew reported that a distress signal activated as they departed an area of large swells from storm Boelo . After assessment, the vessel continued its passage.

"Where to next after Triple Lock passes first Dáil vote?"
RTE does the Triple Lock. So it does.
It portrays it as a done deal that the dismantlement legislation will pass the Oireachtas, without mentioning the noted unhappiness of 10-15 FF TDs (John McGuinness and Willie O'Dea are noted as non voters this week, but that's not "sufficient enough" to block the law), and it's a "done deal" that President Connolly will sign it into law without a referral to Council of State and/or Supreme Court.
The only non-politician cited by RTE is lecturer Ben Tonra, and of course RTE doesn't disclose his role with an armaments lobbying outfit and his longstanding and widely disseminated views on militarisation and military alliances.
Of course, there's no reference to opinion polling which shows the majority of those expressing an opinion, in favour of keeping the Triple Lock. It's a done deal, and you'll just have to get used to it.
It's Sunday and apologies for the profanity, but Fuck Off RTE.
