I can’t speak for Anglo-Saxons (i trust Nick Land to do it), but we are ready to reinstall the order in France or Germany. We are the Rome. We are the Byzantium. Russians are coming.

Starting in a bit, I am joined by polymath @cemk_cemil to break down Trump's support for Russian oil and what this means in terms of the separation happening at the moment. Get in here NOW: youtube.com/watch?v=jnHOgDbR…

Excited to open sign-ups for one of my new projects: Kanpai πŸ₯‚ Host a salon, dinner, hackathon, or any community event? You know how much labor goes into finding sponsors (space, food & drink, etc). Kanpai connects vetted community stewards directly with sponsors who want to support real-world gatherings. Sponsors β€” startups, brands, or individuals: reach engaged, in-person communities instead of just running ads.

Sometimes I worry that I just like feeling heretical. Please help me find flaws in my logic that robots will not kill us all 1. LLM capability is a sigmoid towards expert human level, no xrisk worries there 2. ASI will require the model to interact with worldmodels to generate novel training data at high speed 3. Worldmodels require a) new undiscovered techniques and b) new unbuilt compute/power capacity 4. Real xrisk requires real-world presence to to deliver force at a corporal or cellular or atomic level 5. Real-world presence requires existing in relation with people who own property, generate electricity, manufacture components etc 6. The capability advantages of an ASI manufacturing eg a bioweapon do not extend to these relations, and do not make it any more undetectable than, say, a regular ol terrorist cell buying fertilizer 7. The entire research approach of AI is in training the things to mimic humans, negating the possibility of creating something with an alien outlook 8. Bostromite paperclipper ASI isn't real. The bitter lesson is you get better single-task performance out of a bigger more general model, you can't even have ASI without complexifying the entity beyond such singlemindedness 9. None of this is even on the landscape of possibility until we increase datacenter capacity and therefore power generation by 1-2 OOM, and that'll take 5-10y minimum 10. We simply lack the tools to destroy ourselves. The entire world nuclear arsenal isn't remotely close. There is no biological vector that the immune system can't eventually adapt to. We can start worrying about xrisk when we figure out nanoassemblers

Terry Tao's talking to ChatGPT about the Jacobian counterexample makes it clear how powerful domain expertise is for eliciting AI capabilities. I cannot believe his GPT 5.6 is the same as my GPT 5.6. I could never elicit that kind of capability out of 5.6 or Fable, even though we know they have it in them. I would fail because I couldn't follow what they are saying, or ask the right questions to push them towards a solution. How much expertise do you need to elicit that capability? Could an undergrad math major elicit the intelligence we see in that conversation and that must have been present in the original Fable disproof? I would bet that if 100 math majors had Fable and tried to resolve the Jacobian conjecture, none of them would succeed. 100 math PhDs might have a higher success rate, but how much higher? Levent Alpoge seems like a prodigy who has done serious work in the space before. I imagine his conversation with Fable involved some pretty high-insight direction on his part, beyond what a typical PhD student could do. As AI capabilities keep increasing, I expect the gap between their default performance and their maximum performance will persist or even grow. Put differently: I bet a layperson with access to a model 10x smarter than Fable could not elicit a finding like the Jacobian counterexample. This is a special feature of scientific research, by the way. Most tasks have a ceiling on how well you can do them. There is no Shakespeare of customer service emails that is 100x better than the average customer service email. But scientific research is limited by the unbounded ceiling of everything we do not know. Perhaps as models get more intelligent, expert researchers will produce superhuman knowledge by eliciting genius capabilities, while the rest of us will be made equal, inputing the same prompts as everyone else and praying for rain.
i had the opposite impression watching terry work here, like an apex predator lazily hunting, stephen holstrom casually flicking a black hole in pantheon "i've turned on pro. you need to be more creative than that"

Buddhism is the one religion that could still be true if we live in a Hell World, like it would be the best religion to practice if we literally lived in the "intestines of Yog Sothoth," but it's ultimately less true than Christianity which recognizes the identity of Being with Goodness. Basically Buddhism is like a special spiritual Marine Corps of sorts for an adventure into Black Iron Prison controlled universes.

The way you know Clavicular is autistic is because he does not understand that masculine dominance and competition takes place in the Symbolic, so he tries to ape it in the Imaginary.

The conversation about who and how many of us actually count as socially useful & economically productive will soon shift to the more esoteric question about who is upholding the reality of the world without even knowing that is what they are doing.

i'm sorry but defender absolutely came away looking better in the interaction in your screenshot. i was extremely prejudiced coming in because i do not like when people lie explicitly and knowingly. but it seems like you backed him into a corner. if you want people to be honest to you you can't make them feel backed into a corner.
