A lot of people upset today about politics and the degradation of free markets. Let me assure you that it really doesn't matter who was in power, as this is inevitable. When the US' largest economic competitor runs: 1. A closed capital account and managed currency 2. Endless debt growth that subsidises below market pricing 3. Intentional export growth and suppression of imports 4. Actively discouraging profit seeking and price discovery 5. A totally internalised government bond market There is absolutely no chance a free and open economy can compete. It's just not possible. The pressure that economy places on capital allocation in the free economy will increasingly imbalance and force adaption to the same set of rules. If you believe in capitalism and free markets, it's a fight that they are losing and as a result those ideals will need to be abandoned. Like a subsidised new entrant to a market achieving a monopoly by just waiting out their competition, the only option for the US is to be hollowed out, or copy the new entrants tactics.
