How and why what we do: 🧵... Seems like we think (analyze) and then we do (choose). We actually feel first (middle and last). The feelings provide both context and summarize our analyses.

Nov 2 is next Monday... what is going on?
BREAKING: Japan to urge all citizens to stockpile at least 3 days of food and water in preparation for major disasters and events, with an official emergency request set for November 2.
"At least three days, and I'd like to say a week if possible… please prepare food, toilets, and water properly at home even without public assistance," Japan's Disaster Management says.
It comes just 2 days after the Pentagon started to prepare every major US military base to operate for at least 90 days without outside electricity, fuel, water or supplies, anticipating a major war.
The UK launched the "Be Ready" program 5 days ago, also advising all citizens to keep 3 days of key supplies, including bottled water, non-perishable food, and a battery or wind-up FM radio.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Japan's call for citizens to stockpile at least 3 days of supplies is longstanding official advice for natural disasters like earthquakes and is tied to the scheduled November 2 launch of its new National Disaster Management Agency.

As we enter the final full week of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, the FBI wants to remind you that reporting #cybercrime matters.
If you are a victim of an online scam or other cybercrime, report it to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center at IC3.gov.
I think I learned to do this as a bored, early-rising only child. Going to a very religious high school set me up to do it again in college. Then I quit a good job and after skiing for a season, went and studied it in grad school.
Metacognition is the highest form of intelligence 🧠
Metacognition is the ability to think about your own thinking. It allows you to recognize your thought patterns, question your beliefs, understand your emotions, and reflect on how you make decisions.
People with strong metacognitive skills are better able to recognize their mistakes, adjust their behavior, and learn from experiences. While it's often considered an important part of intelligence, metacognition goes beyond simply knowing information. It's about understanding how your mind works and using that awareness to make better choices.

THE CEASEFIRE HAS COMMENCED
The ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia took effect at 4:00am Moscow time on October 27, 2026.
Timing was accelerated two days ahead of schedule to protect the safety of civilians and to facilitate the delivery of critical humanitarian aid. The ceasefire’s geographic area has expanded beyond Oleshky, within the Kherson Region, to provide safe passage for the humanitarian convoys.
General Valery Gerasimov, Joint Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces has confirmed.
Humans haven't changed. The underlying processes of prediction based on past experience and the subconscious assessment whether a development is good or bad for person is not going away. Attempting to override either is a waste of time.

many times poeple have asked me "Jason what would you do if they stopped producing the COT report?" Nobody asked what would happen if they started producing the report more often:

This was one of the last monologues cable news's most-watched host ever gave.
He asked viewers to imagine his channel pushing a mandatory product from a top advertiser, even as evidence mounted that it caused heart attacks, fertility problems and death.
Days later, his network fired him. 🧵

Owning land is more within reach than most young Americans realize.
Dr. Jill Malone says rural property is cheap, and remote work makes the move possible.
“Rural America right now is dying, and property is cheap.”
“You can go to West Virginia, even parts of rural Virginia, and pick up a house and 10 acres.”
“Starlink allows you to remote work.”
“You do not have to live in the city.”
“When you live in a rural community, you have an intentional community.”
“Buy the cruddy house, buy a house you can take a little loan on, pay it off rapidly, then you have all that equity.”

To quote the Neuroeconomics 2005 (!) meta analysis, “it’s not enough to know what should be done, one must also feel it.”
This should be enough to tackle the challenge of how you feel. Is there a different way to think about how you feel? To understand it? To navigate it?
So much of what you are going to read on human performance is going to be about getting past unpleasant feelings. Believe it or not, you can tolerate feeling fear, frustration and disappointment. Your head won't blow off and your body will not explode.
If you feel these things, you have the opportunity to glean the useful information. There are two categories of info in all feelings - a prediction about ourselves and something about a given situation or decision. You want to find the latter and if you just try to just get past it, you miss it.
New study: "Models of emotion regulation and well-being have suggested that the extent to which people feel how they want to feel (i.e., the size of the discrepancy between one’s experienced and desired emotions) informs the motivation to regulate emotions and psychological health, with larger discrepancies predicting stronger motivation to regulate and poorer psychological health."
*Poorer psychological health (trying to feel how you want to feel.)
