Flat earthers often invoke perspective to explain their local pseudo-sunset. But this explanation does not hold up, a 3000mi high sun would never move away far enough. The sun would never set if earth was flat.

Flat earthers will claim their "sun moves away" sunset is due to perspective. Fact is: a local sun never moves away far enough to appear near the horizon. Using the FE streetlight example, real world proportions dictate a curved road, not a straight one. Sun would never set.
Good morning ☀️ Let’s talk about a disingenuous and dishonest trick the spherical/moving Earth crowd often tries to pull. They can’t substantiate sunset on their absurd flying ball, so they have to attack it in reality by trying to trick you. They will present you with this graphic on the left and ask for the math that allows the Sun to “set” on a planar surface. Seems straightforward, right? Just trig? Well, no. In order to solve this math, when “h” is zero “d” is effectively infinity. “Proving” that the sun can’t set on a plane. The trick is that this treats the Sun like it must physically get closer to the ground (h). It doesn’t It simply drops lower in your FOV as it recedes as a product of your perspective. Just like the streetlights on the right. Just like *everything* you can see as your distance increases. The sun is *no different* 0° never physically happens. It *appears* to. The streetlights on the right aren’t physically getting closer to the ground as they recede. They only *appear* to. 🫡

Lol, first attempt to add a "firmament" to the little flat earth came out a bit different than expected ... love how accidents like this sometimes produce weird output. Flat earthers: Feel free to use this as proof for ... sure you will find something ;)

Welcome to flat earth, where the sun never gets near to the horizon, but somehow a huge oval shaped shadow is still moving around. #gleasonistheglobe

Flat earthers, when they hear Gleason's map is a globe projection. #gleasonistheglobe

Flat earth mapping innovation. 1) flat earth map 1892 2) flat earth map 2026 Amazing what a group of smart people can achieve in more than 130 years.

Earth curvature analysis - revisited. This is a picture I took of a mountain near to where I live. I will use it to determine which assumption, "flat" or "curved", yields the best match ... (flat earthers will have to be strong)

Map. Using the elevation raster, the exact locations of the ray intersections can be located on the map. I also added colored features to ease comparison with the photo.

Curve detected. When comparing the map to the photo it becomes clear that the curve prediction is a surprisingly good match, being just above the yellow line. In the meantime the flat prediction is hidden by ~250m of drop between the hill and the mountain.

Here is the moon setting, filmed from my terrace. It refused to "move away" or change size. Instead it just dropped below the horizon.

Guess I got myself blocked for the tweet below🤣. @CaptCharliePoet should educate himself about the holy hand grenade to deal with low lives like me even more effectively.

Zooming into Melbourne airport on a "flat earth map". Quite clearly shows how badly distorted the Azimuthal Equidistant projection is in the south.

Only a handful of days until the September equinox, which marks the beginning of 6 months without sunset in antarctica, 24h sun! On a flat earth, this would require an oval exclusion of light, impossible with the often claimed "spotlight" FE sun. #gleasonistheglobe

How to debunk flat earth with soccer fields. Soccer fields have a well known size, their diagonal measures at ~120m. We can find fields at different latitudes and compare their size against the expected result on either globe or plane. Unsurprisingly results align with a globe.

One more thing: This graphic shows how well the degree measurements I showed above align with what we would expect for a globe. You can of course provide anything equivalent to support your case (even though I doubt you would be equipped for it).

The weird oval daylight shape produced by the FE sun, which the FE community constantly fails to explain, is the Azimuthal Equidistant projection of the terminator line, the great circle separating day and night on the globe. #gleasonistheglobe

How flat earthers think the sun travels during the December solstice. A lot of light bending will have to be applied to fix this chaos ;)
