I've noticed these past months the disappearance of the term schema & the appearance of mental models, seemingly in its place, when discussing teacher PD. Yet the change has not been explained. I also notice others also using the term ubiquitously. Here is the distinction.

"I have the impression that most people involved in teaching and learning are concerned with how the media can improve the learning process. I think that it would be much better if the time is used to establish contact with the learners, the students." buff.ly/3tLlIQd

We don’t yet have a science of learning, because we don’t yet have a theory of learning that we can test experimentally. Instead we have proto-science & fables: learning styles, Kolb, Bruner, Vygotsky, behaviourism - some even with a grain of truth.

Seen some academics puzzled as to why ChatGPT invents academic references and why its "database" stops at 2021. That's a fundamental misunderstanding of how it works. It's a language model, not a knowledge base. Produces "continuations" not "facts". We need a new AI literacy.

‘Capability development’ is a process - or rather the name we give to something people do. But if you are looking for the ‘capability development’ part of the brain you will be disappointed. Same with learning.
