It’s unusual to have the editor on set, but there I am pointing to the figments of imagination coming to life!

We are finding out that the hyperscalers are hoarding chips they can’t use causing insane compute inflation. This ripples in all directions. I tire of fighting windmills as my business takes hit points. They are hurting themselves as they burn the foundations of their business.

Socials have become very tedious. They are so concentrated on the algo I am missing the one use case most important to me and that is discovery. I want to keep learning new things.

I have had a preorder at American Mathematical Society for Mathematical Impressions by Fomenko for a couple of months and I suspect they are waiting for enough orders to print. Go out there and preorder even if you aren’t into math for the legendary amazing art!

Tend to your physical space, and do some maintenance on your immediate environment. Make something a little better for the next person, as the next person is most likely you. Future you will love this for you, and will create a positive retro causal feedback loop of warm fuzzies.

As we watch a rollout of another wedge issue remember most of the narrative is to continue to keep a power structure in place. AI is dangerous when it is controlled behind closed doors by people with bad incentives. We must create incentives to help our communities rise together.

This may be the most controlled moment in history. Not by a cabal, but by capitalistic interests who have unprecedented surveillance capabilities. We are upset about it on public roadways, but also must pivot this energy into privacy in our homes & the extended mind, our phones.

@united remember when a good twitter rant back in the day actually got you a real person who actually knew how to do things and could actually figure it out.

@united of course the first response is going to be scams trying to screw us. Your customer service regarding lost luggage is the worst experience I have had in years.

We all need to work hard to believe in the possibility of the good future, because if we don’t we wont create the conditions required for it to exist!

I miss the Klaus days of the WEF. It helped slow the dystopian because he embodied villain and that helped slow the train. We are sliding now more than ever under Fink cause he looks normal. I just want to make cool stuff and fix things! Quit trying to make me a criminal!

Part of the reason I ended up in the film production world is a love for being on the frontlines of powerful compute. I am sad to see the younger generation get completely priced out. The demand destruction will hit an entire generation. In my world this is also going to destroy independent post production in the film industry. Most of the projects I am seeing are 8k and you need powerful computers and a lot of storage space to work with the files. These are two areas seeing the most inflation with hard drives 2-4 times prices from a few years ago. This combined with pressure to use AI, as well as clients unwilling to pay higher rates is crushing the individual operator and small teams. I’m sure the big studios love to see the independent world suffer, but it is a tragic situation and is going to cause a lot of people to go out of business. I have zero reach with this account, but on the off chance, are there any other small production houses, editors, or colorists feeling the pressure? If so let me know.

Every time Nvidia announced a circular financing plan they raise their prices. This is a wild way to run a business! Subsidize the product then just raise the price past the subsidy to juice the books. RTX Pro 6000 just went from $13,250 to $16,000 right after this announcement.

I wonder if the akashic record is real when these intrusive thoughts get me to post about things that I normally do not care about, and then a day later, X makes the rules open source. I deleted the original post from a couple days ago. Happens a lot. How do I monetize this gift?
That clearly had zero impact, that said I still think penalizing follows is a weird deterrent and think that X should let the follows fly again. @elonmusk let us have wild follow to follower ratios again ;D

I actually think it hurts original content accounts as it may not be as familiar and does not bang the dopamine like the accounts gaming our attention so are less likely to get a reactive follow.

“Surveillance pricing” will be the default for frontier companies where they drop you to the less capable models for a larger percentage of token gen, or even more insidious max extraction techniques. This could happen so fast that it could even be between your monitor refresh rate so you never notice the icon change. I am speculating and have no evidence, but the slide into dystopian dark patterns persists as a popular extension of monopolistic “max” culture.

I keep almost posting a rant about what the reckless AI buildout is doing to my business but want so badly to be a positive force in this space. Suffice it to say, anyone in the video production world, especially independent editors are feeling massive amounts of pain right now.

Just as chatter regarding the restriction of open weight models make headlines, an OpenAI agent attacks HuggingFace, home of open models! Seed the narrative, create an incident, market the capabilities, all while scaring normies to grease the way for regulatory capture. Win win!

The INCIDENT did not work as intended since open weights were instrumental in defending against the closed model attacking them. This proves that open weights must remain available for the very reason closed companies think they should not. Stay free! xitter.cf/thom_wolf/status/20796…
This was our first incident of this kind, and we want to thank OpenAI for its transparency about what happened and for the collaboration. Fortunately, Hugging Face is used to being a target of (human) hackers: we sit at the centre of the AI ecosystem, with all the models, datasets, evaluations, and libraries. Over the years, our security team has built formidable expertise and uses top open-source models to process information and respond quickly. But this incident also reinforced my belief in the importance of access to capable open-weight models for cyber defence. When a frontier model is attacking you and moving laterally inside your infrastructure, defenders need wide access to near-frontier tools within hours or even minutes, rather than being pointed towards a closed-door, vetted application programme for model access. Transparency and access to capable AI systems are as important for responding to threats as they are for democratization and innovation. We believe open-science and open-source AI are among the strongest tools for building a safer, more collaborative and more secure AI ecosystem.
