This Sunday, 1 November 2026, Bulgaria faces a historic choice: Europe or Moscow? Reform or stagnation? The future or the past?
I wholeheartedly endorse Andrey Gyurov and Georgi Kandev for Bulgaria's presidency.
As an economist, European enlargement advocate and Chairman of the Austrian Committee for NATO Enlargement, I believe Bulgaria deserves a president who stands firmly for European freedom, NATO solidarity, economic modernization, the rule of law and Ukraine's victory.
Andrey Gyurov represents the courage to break with the politics of yesterday.
In our little political fairy tale, Gyurov is Saint George, and the dragon represents the old politics of stagnation, corruption and dependence on Moscow.
The dragon may look frightening, but democracy has a stronger weapon than any medieval lance: the ballot! 🗳️
Bulgaria is a proud European nation. Its future belongs at the heart of a strong, free and united Europe.

Ahead of #Bulgaria’s presidential runoff, the Party of European Socialists says “We stand with Iliana Iotova”. Look at what she stands for.
On military aid to Ukraine: “It almost seems as if we are doing everything possible to prolong this conflict through military supplies.”
On ending the war: “at any cost”.
Asked who the aggressor was, she described a full-scale war fought in both directions, according to Bulgaria’s news agency BTA.
This is the politician the PES celebrates as a champion of “European values”.
Defending Ukraine does not mean prolonging Russia’s war. Peace “at any cost” risks making Ukrainians pay with their land and freedom. And describing fighting on both sides does not answer who invaded whom.
You cannot stand with Ukraine in Brussels and abandon that principle when party loyalty becomes inconvenient.
The PES owes Ukrainians and Europeans an explanation. A socialist label is no excuse for this shameful double standard.
