Brad Bradford emerges with his wife, mother and one of his daughters. He wishes Chow well and says he wants her to succeed. “We all love this city. We know it can be better.” He urges the crowd to give her a round of applause.

It’s over: Mayor Olivia Chow will be re-elected in Toronto over challenger Brad Bradford. A 13 point drubbing, a majority for the Mayor, and a continuation of politics.

Lula pulled off a political comeback that Nixon would never even dream of: he went from being in prison to being elected president in less than 3 years

Update on the Brazilian election: I personally am convinced that Lula will win the election. My own projection is barely even moving as more results come in, with Lula steadily being projected to win about 51.7% of the vote.

Regardless of who wins in Brazil it does seem like the left shouldn’t have nominated an 80 year old and the right shouldn’t have nominated the son of the guy who lost last time and went to jail

(I would’ve voted Lula ofc) Lula should maybe also pledge to step down after a couple years and let his VP take over if he wins

The prospect of a snap election is obviously tempting but if you win all 5 competitive by-elections you have 178 seats in the house, a pretty comfortable majority. It’d just be a gamble on lengthening the term which I think would be unwise

Every leftist understands why James Talarico has better odds against Ken Paxton than he would against John Cornyn, but as soon as you suggest that the same dynamics might exist for democratic candidates as well they have an aneurysm.

2022 polling had more variance. This time pollsters are clinging on to Bolsonaro+1 for dear life. The error could go either direction, ofc

How rare is an interim leader winning an election? I could only find one precedent. Not just in Canada - in all Westminster countries at the national or provincial/state levels. Searched UK, Australia, NZ. Just found one. British Columbia in 1952

Is there precedent for someone designated as the interim leader of a party winning an election and becoming premier?

Did I just see a Polymarket ad that implied that a staffer should do insider trading if they see their candidate having an affair??
