I think I found the best approach with upset customers. I used it on this one and I found it to be very fair.
I listened to his complaints and before I started to speak my piece I said "sir, I want you to know that I'm committed to your satisfaction and if that means I refund all your money then so be it"
The customer and I found a great solution with a small refund and everyone was happy.

Two female New Orleans based airport employees hopped a cargo flight to Nicaragua in mid-1985 and inadvertently ended up in a CIA-supported Contra base camp.
Tricia R. (left) and Wendie B. (right) were friends working for a Fixed Base Operator business at New Orleans airport in the summer of 1985. They decided to try to deadhead a flight down to the Caribbean Island of Roatan, just north of Honduras, for a few days at the beach. They were able to talk their way on board a cargo flight to Nicaragua chartered by the nonprofit humanitarian group Friends of the Americas, with the intention of finding a way to Roatan from there.
Friends of the Americas was founded in 1884 by Louisiana State Representative Louis "Woody" Jenkins and his wife Diane to provide food and medicine to poverty-stricken regions in Central America, particularly around the Honduras/Nicaragua border.
Unbeknownst to Tricia and Wendie, Friends of the Americas may have been involved in the covert war in Nicaragua in addition to its humanitarian work. Their flight crew had all previously worked for Air America, and FOA also employed Ed Dearborn (not pictured), who had previously flown air support in the Congo in an armed T-28 in the mid-1960s, and cargo flights in Laos for Continental Air Services and Air America, both CIA proprietary airlines.
Their flight crew took them to a base camp run by the Contras, where they ate in the mess hall. Wendie was recognized by someone who had passed through New Orleans recently, where she had stamped his flight logbook.
They were given flight coveralls and the Uzis seen here for a photo, although Wendie had no previous experience with firearms. Not long afterwards they made their way to Roatan as planned for a beachside vacation, with an interesting story to boot.
