Saw some asks about whether you should use dots or Codex. In reality they work great together! My dot is now my favorite way of using Codex. Less mental overload and the proactiveness is a lifesaver

Today my dot pinged me about a $1,000 government contribution to a child’s retirement account that my daughter qualifies for. Then it offered to explain the details and help me apply.
This is the kind of proactive help I want.

An update here: we’re upgrading all Codex for OSS grants to Pro 200!
There will still be the 10,000 grants in this round, now at the higher tier. (If you've already received a grant, the upgrade should be reflected automatically.)
Applications are still open :)
We started Codex for OSS six months ago.
Today, we’re renewing the program with $100 Pro plans and doubling the number of grants (from 5,000 to 10,000) to reach more maintainers.
(If you received a grant previously, we encourage you to re-apply!)

Today’s news is a glimpse of what’s ahead for AI and cybersecurity. It’s an increasingly important part of our work at @OpenAI.
We’re hiring a DX Engineer to work alongside our amazing Cyber team and help developers better secure their apps. Come join us!

Turns out building with @ChatGPT Sites is pretty addicting. So is clicking cookies. 🍪
I made a little demo that does both, with a database and an MCP server so ChatGPT and Codex can join in.
Come hang out. I hope it gives you an idea for something fun to build.
Chapters:
00:00 A cookie clicker for humans and AI
00:27 The prompt I started with
00:41 Saving clicks in a database
01:16 Adding MCP tools
01:29 MCP in plain language
02:09 Testing with MCP Inspector
03:11 Asking ChatGPT for the click count
03:40 Clicking a cookie with Codex CLI
04:10 What will you build?
OpenAI models helped researchers—operating as part of our Patch the Planet initiative—discover critical security flaws in PHP, an open-source programming language used to run an estimated 70% of websites.
Over the past two months, we led a coalition of maintainers, researchers, and security providers to prepare fixes and protections ahead of disclosure. This duration was necessary because the fix was quite intricate and required a major change to the PHP engine. Every site using PHP can now safely upgrade their version to stay secure, in addition to applying mitigations from various security vendors.
Due to the severity of these flaws and PHP’s widespread use, we consider this bug to be one of the most impactful vulnerabilities in recent memory. It also marks a new phase, where AI can find security bugs with internet-scale impact.
This is an example of the Defender’s Window in action: to our knowledge, frontier AI was able to find this vulnerability ahead of attackers, giving defenders time to prepare.

Readers added context they thought people might want to know
OpenAI may claim a role in the coordinated response and patching process. But the initial discovery and exploit development, however, occurred several months earlier by an independent researcher.

Day 16/
You can now cache for 12h in the API and for logged in users across Codex & Work we keep cache forever and you don’t have any penalty for coming back to an old conversation or resuming after a few hours and are now guaranteed to hit the cache.

Check out chatgpt.com/cyber to get Daybreak for individuals and openai.com/form/enterprise-t… for organizations.
We're here to help.
Our team worked with OpenCode to have their users who are also OpenAI API customers back in business and any credits refunded which would have been drawn in the attack.
Also, you can request Daybreak Blue access to use our cyber permissive setup for defense. Do not wait until you have to deal with an incident. We’re here to help.

Personal update: Turns out that what I thought was leaving OpenAI became more of a sabbatical.
When I left a few months ago, I felt that the most important thing to focus on was making AI more useful to people. But we’ve since entered a different regime of AI progress. One in which getting the safety and security challenges of increasingly capable AI right has to become a central priority.
So I’ll be returning to OpenAI, joining @merettm to help chart a path through these challenges.
There’s much work to do, so let’s get going.

You can now go back through a conversation, edit prompts and resume the conversation from there.
It works by discarding the messages/ tool calls post the edited prompt to make sure the model doesn’t get confused.
This has been a long requested feature, happy team shipped it!

🗣️ THIS WEEK IN AGENTS API 🗣️
⚡ 6-Astra Ultrafast: now available in the Agents API!
📷 Sandbox snapshots: Restore OpenAI-hosted environments after idle with files intact and keep the work going.
🤑 Better billing: you won't pay for environments that are idle
🔑 Environment keys: Create environment keys programmatically (not just through the dashboard)
📈 Artifact SDK: Create and edit spreadsheets, slides, and Word docs in OpenAI-hosted sandboxes
🔎 Turn-level history: Fetch the items from a specific root-agent turn, including subagent interactions
🔒 Vault filtering: Filter vaults by metadata

What is ChatGPT Space, that is the question. Endearingly awkward at times because it's the actual team working on it. What would you like to see next?
I never use my iPhone’s camera button. So I made it call my dot.
We just shipped dot widgets and Action button support on iOS. Here’s how to set those up, plus the Shortcuts trick I used for the camera button.

Building apps with GPT-Live-1? Give them a voice that fits.
Here’s how to shape a voice with a prompt or choose from new international preset voices:

I'm thoroughly Dots-pilled. Still a fan of Muse, but probably 75-80% of my AI requests now go through Dots. The primary exception: learning things in chat. For that, GPT-6 Instant with Dynamic UI is unmatched. Just incredible. Some recent Dots work and personal tasks:
- Build and update a Spanish vocabulary app
- Maintain a document on AI comparisons
- Execute tasks I delegate directly from Slack
- Monitor threads in Slack and summarize responses
- Research a contact and write a brief for a call
- Analyze token data and make me a deck to share
- Monitor token consumption, alert me if needed
- Respond to comments in Pages in Space
You might say: "Dude, ChatGPT could do a lot of that already." True.
But I no longer have to think about all these threads individually. I just keep firing stuff at my Dots from wherever I am. ChatGPT, Slack, reading a Page in Space. I just throw stuff at it, and it does it, and sometimes it proactively just does stuff based on what it thinks I'd find valuable.
I was skeptical when this launched because it's nowhere near as consumer-friendly as Muse. But I think that's part of why OpenAI launched this first to business and pro-tier users. We're willing to suffer a bit for extra capability.
I'm starting to see some of the advantages now, and the product also continues to get more polished.
Bullish.

crazy: my dot noticed my main email domain's SPF record was invalid
i don't even know why it was looking at that since my email's been fine!
it then fixed it by making the change in @vercel – without me having to think about anything
Loved reading @danshipper trip down memory lane about Codex. I remember trying to be the first one to truly main the app but loved the IDE Extension and couldn't see myself not doing small edits by hand.
Now I don't remember when I opened a code editor last

A few big upgrades for Chrome users today! We’re bringing the power of computer use to anyone who uses Chrome.
First up: ChatGPT can now use your tabs in Chrome to make answers more useful and get things done for you.
If you’re in Chat, it can look across your open tabs and gather info.
If you’re in Work, ChatGPT can control your Chrome tabs to get things, like sending messages, filling out forms, or downloading files. It can even help you organize and group that pile of tabs you have open.
