Please remember: The plastic Halloween decorations you're putting out for this one day will be sitting in a landfill for centuries, killing starving wildlife, and washing out into the sea where they will end up choking, terrifying and killing vulnerable marine animals. Please, teach your children to be kind. They'll remember that lesson far longer than any decoration you buy.

Another good reason not to bother with the con job that is Halloween Time to start putting animal welfare ahead of our own selfish need for entertainment. Let’s not use this stuff so the manufacturers go out of business and save hedgehogs, birds and other wildlife
Halloween artificial cobweb material: It may be a bit of fake fun for you, but it's a very real and terrifying death for them. And it's not only birds. Last year I had my first call of the season of a hedgehog trapped in this horrific fake 'cobweb', made especially for gullible halloweeners to spread over their greenery, trapping all unsuspecting birds, insects and mammals, including hedgehogs. The fine synthetic fibers are difficult for animals to see and can quickly wrap around their legs, spines, and neck, leading to severe injuries. When a hedgehog struggles to free herself the web tightens, cutting off circulation and causing deep wounds. These constriction injuries often lead to permanent damage or death. Unfortunately the call was from Manchester, so all I could do was talk them through getting the poor creature to a rescue. Clearly she had been trapped there for at least one night, and her struggles had pulled the strong nylon strands so tightly that one of her toes had been amputated. Can you imagine the pain and the sheer terror? And then seeing dawn approach, while hanging there, tightly bound and helpless. Aside from being stressed, dehydrated, starving and exhausted to the point of near death, she also had horrific bite/peck wounds to her face, where she had been held there, helpless, unable to curl and defend herself, while a predator tried to eat her alive. If you have used this deadly cruel trap to 'decorate' your garden, please take it down now. Please don't be conned by the greedy makers and sellers of this rubbish into hurting defenceless animals.

We’ve just made an order today for veterinary drugs for our furry clients at the Sanctuary but also for our Strand station next week. Any help towards the cost would be greatly appreciative. We have quite a lot of poorly dogs on the Sanctuary that came into us in bad health that we are trying to support, but we also have Dogs that we need to continue medication on strand station. 🙏 dogsonthestreets.org

So according to some Badgers are responsible for the problems hedgehogs are having and their reduction in numbers. Read this from @HedgehogCabin as Pauly totally rubbishes this nonsense Unlike us. Wild animals live together perfectly happily.
Replying to @mattwridley
What a load of nonsense!😂 Quite inventive! Are you financed by fox hunters or farmers, by any chance? Please stop spreading this misinformation. It does no one any good and just encourages hedgehog lovers to hate and be afraid of badgers. Badgers and hedgehogs have lived peaceably together side by side for 125,000 years. The badgers didn't suddenly decide to go on a hedgehog murdering spree, you know.🙄 They are incredibly tolerant of each other. Their diets are similar so they compete for food, but without aggression. This iniquitous rumour about badgers is spread by the deviants who enjoy torturing and killing animals, hoping to get hedgehog lovers to validate their depravity. Badgers are NOT hunters, you don't need a degree in zoology to know that, you only have to look at their body shape, their eye position, and sweet lumbering gait.😁 They are foragers, and 80% of their diet is earthworms. Of course any animal dying of starvation will act unnaturally, if that's the only way to survive. Humans have been know to eat each other, in extremis. So a starving badger may attempt predating a hedgehog, or any other animal, if it's risk that or death. That doesn't mean anything. Hedgehogs are no more part of badger's natural diet as mud is to a starving third world child. And as for the 'hollowed-out skins' - dear me, this is so ignorant. Anyone with even a passing knowledge of badger dentition knows this is impossible, utter nonsense. These empty skins are sadly all what's left of dead hedgehog, whose cause of death is usually parasite invasion or starvation, after birds - corvids mainly - have finished scavenging the corpse. See all those little dimples? They are peck marks. And badgers don't have beaks.😊

🐾❤️ FIDDLE UPDATE – SOME GOOD NEWS AT LAST! ❤️🐾 After a very busy week, as usual, we wanted to give you all an update on Fiddle, the beautiful dog who was involved in a road traffic accident a few weeks ago. We are so pleased to let you know that Fiddle has now left the veterinary hospital and is back at our sanctuary, where we are continuing her aftercare. Fiddle has suffered a broken pelvis, along with quite a number of internal and external injuries. She is still not out of the woods, and there is a long road to recovery ahead of her, but we are encouraged by the fact that her tail is wagging! She is currently in our medical block, receiving round-the-clock care and lots of love from our team. On Monday, we will be taking her back to the vets to have her stitches removed. Providing all goes well, she will then return to her owner to continue her strict rest and aftercare. There are still many veterinary appointments ahead of us, and further surgery may be necessary, so we will continue to take things one day at a time and do everything we can to help Fiddle recover. And now, we need to say a very heartfelt THANK YOU. ❤️🙏 It was through your incredible kindness and generosity with donations that we were able to cover the cost of Fiddle’s treatment so far. Without your support, she simply would not have had the chance she has today. Every donation, every share and every kind message has meant so much to us. When emergencies like Fiddle’s happen, your support makes all the difference between being able to help and having to turn away. We still have a way to go, but for now, we are just so grateful that Fiddle is back with us, safe in our medical block and receiving the care she desperately needs. From all of us at Dogs on the Streets, thank you for caring, thank you for giving, and thank you for helping us give Fiddle a chance. 🧡 peoplesfundraising.com/fundr…

A smile to start your weekend.😍 Hedgehogs have survived, unchanged, for 15 million years. 15 million years! Just think - our humble little garden visitors once walked with woolly mammoths and sabre-toothed tigers. They survived so well because they are resourceful, adaptable, courageous and problem-solving. Just look at how this clever boy solves the problem of the feeder being bricked up. You wouldn't expect that level of intelligence from a humble little hedgehog, would you?😊 The fact our hedgehogs are on the brink of extinction now, despite surviving persecution, drought, famine, and the ice age, is a serious indicator of how just how profoundly endangered our fragile ecosystem has become. Please do what you can to help these gentle, clever little animals. While hedgehogs who are healthy and well nourished will have hibernated now, those who are sickly or underweight are still around, desperately searching for a kind garden that provides. Please leave out a dish of fresh clean water each evening, by your back and front door. A dish of dry kitten food kept safe inside a feeder would be a life saver.(Please see hedgehogcabin.info/making-a-… for how to make one). Remember to leave the leaves where they fall, and keep the edges of your garden and at least one corner uncut and undisturbed all winter, to allow natural food to safely live and grow.

🎆 The sky lights up. The bangs begin. And for some dogs, the fear is very real. 💔🐶 What sounds like a celebration to us can feel terrifying to a dog. Fireworks can trigger panic, trembling, hiding, barking and desperate attempts to escape. For dogs already facing uncertainty, homelessness or a lack of security, this time of year can be especially challenging. 💛 Walk your dog before dark. 🏡 Where possible, keep them indoors with windows and curtains closed. This means don't take them trick-or-treating! 🎵 Put on familiar music or TV to help mask the noise. 🐾 Never leave a frightened dog alone outside. This Bonfire Night, let's remember the animals who don't understand the celebrations. Can you help Dogs on the Streets support dogs in need? Every donation, no matter how small, can help us continue our work supporting vulnerable dogs and their owners. 🎁 Donate, share this post or tag someone who needs this reminder. 🔗 dogsonthestreets.org

Poppy went on to make a full recovery. Her wounds healed superbly and we were able to release her on 4/10. At 802g, she went out at just over double the weight she came in! Good luck Poppy! #hedgehog #wildlife #conservation
Poppy, 400g, was admitted on 16/8, found out in the day with wounds from a dog bite. These are healing nicely and she is also receiving treatment for roundworm and lungworm. This lucky lady is eating well and is now 546g. #hedgehog #wildlife #conservation
