Eric Milou’s book Invigorating High School Math shaped our work. We are excited to open up varied opportunities in mathematics for all students.

Design learning activities that discourage mimicking. "If we want our students to think, we need to give them something to think about-something that will not only require thinking but also encourage thinking." @pgliljedahl #WCDSBInnovates #thinkingclassroom

#ASSM22 if we are doing “I do, We do, You do”—- then we are asking students to mimic ( not think).

Day 2 of #ASSM22 continues with updates from our sister organizations, @NCTM and @MathEdLeaders, thanks to @TrenaWilkerson and @Dr_PaulGray. We're also taking time to hear perspectives of long-time members like Diana Kasbaum.

@meganlfranke at #ASSM22 shares a/b engagement: Create opportunities to see & hear the brilliance of young ppl. Be messy & wrestle w/ the details. Find out a/b their partial understandings using language, representations & gestures. Pause for others to participate & extend. 💭

Loving @meganlfranke’s session on Supporting the Mathematical Brilliance of Young People. “Let’s stop focusing on learning loss and look at the brilliant things young people can do.” #ASSM22

#ASSM22 Great weekend to increase capacity of math Ed leaders to make the difference for students!
Solid morning here at the ASSM Annual Meeting and, yes, we're having some fun. @UTEdhauck and @Joleighhoney kicked us off, followed by Patrick Callahan talking about asset-based assessment and Roberto Rodriguez giving us an update from @usdoegov.

A fun mathy morning with leaders who love math more than most people! Their enthusiasm is contagious! #ASSM22
It's Day 3 at #ASSM22 and we're doing math! For most of us as state supervisors, working fun problems in a room full of supportive, math-minded people is a special thing we don't get to do everyday.

I feel honored to be a part of this group and meet in person colleagues I have only worked with virtually, #ASSM22
It's been a long time since ASSM had a group photo that wasn't a screenshot of a Zoom window. If there's someone in your department of education who oversees K-12 mathematics in your state, they're probably in this picture.

#ASSM22 It was an honor to have lunch with NCTM’s Pandemic President - thank you for your amazing leadership! @TrenaWilkerson
