A friend working as a product manager told me the other day "As long as you use product on your title you will always be more respected over using designer.
This is why many ux designers end up marketing themselves as product designers or switch to product management.

I don't think that "designer" is what lacks respect over "product" to be honest. But instead, it is the "user" part that many still struggle with.
Despite the growth of user experience design today, some top-level; businessmen still have an allergy to anything user-led.
