For #MentalHealth month, I’ve committed to putting one foot forward rucking, trail jogging, rowing and walking 100kms to fundraise for @blackdoginst. Clocked 24kms in 7 days, so I’m on track, and have a last week twist to share in due course 😉 onefootforward.org.au/s/2604…

Hi @mtracey, Your demonstrable disinterest in a) global peer-reviewed and criminal charge-related evidence, b) reading the evidence-savvy ‘room’, and c) acting ethically journalistically instead of ego-syntonically would be really quite remarkable to many. Not me.

My understanding is he was evaluated for but not diagnosed as being ASPD (who lack empathy and remorse making them very hard to ‘treat’/rehab), was coerced by a father figure, and offended while an heroin addict. Risk of reoffending was determined low; therefore parole possible.
He murdered four of the twelve Snowtown victims when he was 18. He's now 40. I'm not sure that someone who did that at 18 then spent the next 2 decades of his life with hardened criminals can ever fit back into society safely. What do you think? abc.net.au/news/2026-09-15/s…

I arrived to this lovely message (and a sweet treat) on Monday, and left this morning feeling grateful for the #SkyeonKent team for all they do to look after me when I’m away for work. Now heading back to Brisbane also feeling grateful for the fact I love my work 😊 🙏

I remember very well where I was on 9/11. It was late evening in Perth and I was on night shift at Yanchep Two Rocks ambulance depot. While many Australians slept, with morbid fascination I watched the live news as it unfolded. It was a dark night I’ll not forget. @Sandra_Sully

I don’t tweet as much about SARS-CoV-2 induced brain damage these days because I think it speaks for itself now. Nothing I can tweet can do the real life evidence justice. And if you can’t see it, then god help you. Hint: it manifests most obviously in people’s behaviour.

Melanie - addressing so-called ‘survey fatigue’: it’s frustration and distrust (Me: hello HR)…. The answer isn’t ‘survey less.’ ✅ Do the hard yards beforehand ✅ Have great comms - what, when, why ✅ Send via trusted staff. ✅ Close the loop. #PHSCON

Megan - The diff bt having ‘supports’, and those supports being accessed and or working as intended. As I often say, in inherent risk scenarios, being person-centric and trauma informed is very important - so carefully select and duly protect your #peersupporters. #PHSCON

Better spreadsheets don’t mean better risk owners - info is not the same as confidence and competence to act. Don’t let confidence or competence run faster than capability. Avoid assumptions, be curious when consulting, and enable action. #PHSCON #capabilitybuilding @psychsafe

I’ll call this ‘real versus fake consultation’ panel: ✅ Genuine means no decisions have been made yet; it’s not about informing workers on pre-determined outcome (why hello ANU, UTS….) ✅ workers are willing and able to provide info to inform decisions #PHSCON #consultation

Panel: Data and metrics are great / you also need a voice culture, you need reporting systems, you need to triangulate quant and qual, connect the dots, and build a comprehensive story; the worse thing you can do with all that data and all those metrics is do nothing. #PHSCON

Securing management commitment and support - what if we did the same data deep dive into near hits and near misses; not just injury causing incidents? The value of a speak up culture and stories for leaders to learn from, then invest in #psychosocial safety. #PHSCON #learning

Dollard on psychosocial safety climate not only having scope for harm prevention but also facilitating #RTW, w both physically & psych injured workers more likely to do so in +ve #PSC conditions. Also #PSC as a dynamic precursor to psychosocial risk and societal health. #PHSCON

Love the emphasis on shared learnings - including for those unable to attend in-person or on-line, per @FidesaAndrew’s longstanding call. So I’ll be attempting to share a few key points of as many sessions as I can from the #PHSCON over the next two days 😊 Ps hi @SafetyOz

Well, Brisbane seemingly skipped Spring and went straight to Summer with temps above 30 last week (noticeably over trend averages), so Sydney’s forecast for this week’s trip is more in line with gradual exposure to Summer Down Under ☀️

Why people with *no idea about trauma* shouldn’t *personally opine RE: trauma.* Trauma responses are varying - NOT just *flight or flight*. Can be narrow + survive, thalontosis, dissociation, acute or ongoing psychosis….. Avoid exacerbating trauma; ask an expert @9NewsNOW
Radio hosts Brendan Fevola and Kate Langbroek questioned how Stewart could think clearly at that moment. Actually fight or flight moments are very poignant moments of survival thoughts. Shark attack survivor Leah Stewart accused of ‘lying’ - 9news apple.news/AYbQ2C_zTTT2un_4u….

Clarifying / Not referring to you Nat. We do a fair bit of work in the trauma space and the reported conduct of the radio hosts as public figures is right up there with such a dangerously uninformed ‘personal opinion’, they should both be reprimanded and given a trauma education.

My bad for not making that more explicit than the tag 🙏 for anyone reading, flight and flight ARE responses as Nat outlined; criticism was of the radio hosts as public figures that shouldn’t cover serious topics they know nothing about unless bringing in an expert.

Interesting case. Been around the #HR trenches for *Some Time.* Privacy and confidentiality (P & C) has weaponisation (avoid/excuse) scope. Curiously, the px in this case reportedly waived P & C rights; yet still employers/past medical team refused to speak, citing ‘px P & C.’
Every. Day. This happens in NZ, Australia (ask us how we know), UK, US etc etc. You wouldn’t believe it possible if it didn’t happen to you. Children’s Hospitals have a lot to answer for.

A timely reminder those pushing an #urgencyofnormal agenda w NPIs like virtual schooling claiming school was ubiquitously beneficial to *all* were at best painfully uninformed, at worse deliberately ignoring the wider picture, for which the evidence was and remains consistent.
A reminder that school days and school months are associated with significantly increased suicide risk. There are many things that parents, teachers, and administrators could and should do with this knowledge, but most importantly: give kids grace in returning please.
