Data are vital for evidence-based land use decisions. I tweet about those data, the decisions and the tools, including #rstats and #qgis

Street #trees have many benefits, including carbon storage and sequestration, and pollution removal. I created a #rstats Shiny app to explore the benefits of planting trees in my street. This thread explore what I did and what I found... app-dan-carpenter.co.uk/stre…

A really interesting day at the @_ALERC_ conference. Lots of innovative projects happening, including a cool #shiny app for ancient woodland inventory updates.
Digital Ecology has been attending the @_ALERC_ conference today. It has been great to hear about all of the collaborative work LERCs are doing across the UK to strengthen and develop their businesses.

The @_ALERC_ conference is a great way to hear about the work LERCs are doing and I am pleased that @TeamNEYEDC will be talking about the work @EcologyDigital have been doing on Local Wildlife Site data.
Looking forward to the @_ALERC_ Conf next week: alerc.org.uk/conference.html which some of us will be attending whilst our office is in transit! In a breakout session we'll be giving some background to the great Local Wildlife Site reporting work @drdcarpenter is developing for us 🖱️
Some reflections on the @GeoCommunity #GeoCom today.
Digital Ecology attended the @GeoCommunity #GeoCom22 conference @RGS_IBG in London today, at the kind invitation of Henry Odbert. The theme was 'Sustainability in a changing world' with a range of talks on this theme. So what will I take away from the conference? (1/11)

This! Also true of most UK government output. Not everyone has, or wants, MS Excel. Drives me to distraction.

Hello #rstats folks. If I am using purrr::walk to render some .Rmd's with a parameter, and some fail, is there a way to skip the failures and just get the ones that work? Doing it manually in batches at the mo 😩

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will see what works and report back. I am very much a purrr beginner.

Possibly() worked, skipping errors. Not quite sure how to use the otherwise argument yet, but at least I can set it loose and not have to deal with errors one at a time.
Congratulations to @RiverThameCT on the publication of the bird atlas.
It's here! 🍾Explore the River Thame Bird Atlas: riverthame.org/bird-atlas-2/ Up until now very little was known about the birdlife of the Thame catchment...but 5 years of surveying by passionate volunteers has led to the creation of a groundbreaking map of birds across the catchment

I am slowly learning how to use .gitignore properly. When you get it right, it makes using git much easier! #rstats

Hello #rstats #rmarkdown folk. I am building an rmarkdown website. How do I get an image / logo into the nav bar please? Seems to be very hard to do! Thanks in anticipation!

My pomodoro method is to write some #rstats code, push it to my repository and then wait for the container to build. A good ten minute break between pushes. And yes, this really isn't efficient!

Fairly niche #journorequest: I'm looking to meet with a local biodiversity recorder in either Leeds / York next week for a feature I'm writing on biodiversity for @BigIssue. Ideally someone with several years' experience & enthusiasm for recording! email in bio @PressPlugs
