& as a light skinned person who whole heartedly believes and lives this right here, I still be tired of these “acknowledge it” conversations. 🙂
I think as light skin people we have to continually acknowledge when it is at play & denounce it. So many light skin people are simply okay with being favored even if that comes with disrespect of dark skin folks in their presence. While I can’t uproot the system, I can absolutely push against. I can absolutely use my privilege as leverage for my dark skin brothers & sisters. It’s starts at the micro level with dating and the way we participate in harmful rhetoric that reinforces that system. Like white folks, a lot of light skin act like they are some how helpless victims for benefiting from colorism. So much so that they will claim reverse colorism LMAOOO.
Aside from being told I am now disqualified from a conversation I’m otherwise told I need to be doing more in, I’m actually really over the moon to hear ppl call me “brown skin”
I post more pics in the summer, and do my makeup in a way to make me appear more bronzed cus everybody who knows me knows I love darker skin 😭 I’m just glad it’s working!

why is it that every time i acknowledge the colourism and problematic behaviour within the lightskin community… you guys feel the need to remind me that i’m lightskin myself? like okay… and? does that somehow disqualify me from calling out behaviour i don’t agree with? being lightskin doesn’t mean i automatically identify with participate in or excuse that behaviour.
