Strongly agree. Makes sense on so many levels. For the players, parents, clubs, schools and counties

I wrote about this over a year ago and emphasised the role of schools. Kerry's five minors in a row from 2017-2018 were powered by four Hogan Cup winning sides. I also talked about managing expectations in players and parents. rte.ie/brainstorm/2026/0720/…
Great debates on development squads recently, it’s becoming apparent that a school of excellence is most effective in ‘schools’

It is impossible to quantify the positive impact Pádraic has made on @Galway_GAA and to football nationally as a player and a manager. He was directly responsible for some of the greatest days we have ever had as supporters. Superb to work with and leaves an outstanding legacy.
🔉Galway Senior Football Management Update
Galway GAA can confirm that Pádraic Joyce is stepping down as the Galway Senior Football Manager after seven years in charge.
Appointed to the role in October 2019 ahead of the 2020 season, the Killererin clubman has given stellar service over the past seven years to Galway Football as team manager. Under his leadership, Galway Football rebuilt consistency with the squad transformed into perennial championship contenders.
Pádraic re-established Galway as the standard bearers of the province, capturing four consecutive Connacht Senior Football titles (2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025). He also steered the Tribesmen to All-Ireland Senior Football Final appearances in 2022, their first final in 21 years and again in 2024. Before managing, Pádraic was one of Galway’s most prolific forwards during a glittering 15-year inter-county career.
We extend heartfelt thanks and genuine appreciation to Pádraic and his management team for their leadership, dedication, commitment and want to acknowledge the lasting impact they have made over the past seven years driving Galway Football forward to compete at the highest level.

Kerry looked tired and slow today but they are Under 20 champs so won’t go away. Roscommon defeat made Mayo who they are today.

Brilliant stuff Dave. Individual stuff is revealing. Ryan O D and Kobe are phenoms (we already knew that about Kerry lads)
2 things I’ve noted recently, and open to correction/asking the question analytically on 1)
1) cumulative averages seem to be more instructive in new rules. What I mean is, styles don’t really make fights anymore. Previously I’d have been cautious about averages in a GAA season. It seems to hold through more now. Am I imagining that?
2) Dublin beat Kerry comfortably enough on Kerrys “long long KO’s”. This is the one thing Mayo might push for. A small emerging (maybe) nuance in the “long”

Half time stats #kerry vs #mayo in #allireland
Expected Score of 10.2 to 9.6 Kerry
After initially losing their first four balls, Mayo have started to win kick outs and have 12 shots from 14 phases
They've pushed Kerry to just over 50% kick out wins
Five turnovers in Kerry's half is key

3 out of 4 #allireland 1/4 finals were lost by the team who scored the most per phase of possession and won by the team who won the most kick outs
County football has become less about football and all about who wins kick outs
It's a seismic shift
"Piggery", some might say
As scores per ten phases has rocketed in 12 months, the pattern is unlikely to change

What a win for Galway, young lads have added huge energy and class but the older boys really stood up today and played as good as ever. Congrats to all.
