True Romance is one of the only times Quentin Tarantino wrote a film but didn’t direct it. The result? A masterful film directed by Tony Scott. Who’s to say that won’t be the case again in a few weeks? Tarantino put the keys in David Fincher’s hands this time, a director equally as reliable as the late, great Tony Scott. I’m excited.

So good!
Brian De Palma’s execution of tension in the 1976 classic CARRIE is unmatched. By pushing this scene to its absolute emotional peak, he leaves the audience completely hooked for the impending chaos. 🎞️

The best!
Tom Skerritt as the monster of the week, a satanic politician, with Darren McGavin in a 1974 episode of KOLCHAK: THE NIGHT STALKER. RIP Tom Skerritt

Sometime in 1983, in the northwest Valley, an unknown prankster altered the "Valley Cir" sign (for Valley Circle Boulevard) to read "Valley Girl" -- a playful reference to the newly released movie of the same name. Like, omigod!

All the President's Men lost the Academy Award for Best Picture to Rocky at the 49th Academy Awards in 1977. This also includes a field of Best Picture nominees that included Network & Taxi Driver. It’s just one snapshot of how loaded the ‘70s was with timeless Cinema. Do not ask me to relitigate 1977 Oscar race. I can’t do it. I won’t do it. All four of these films are perfect masterpieces.

Few examples of LA's uniquely wonderful architecture them have been on the scale of the Moorish Revival Shrine Auditorium at 665 W. Jefferson Blvd. It opened in 1926, which is when this photo was taken from the parking lot across Royal St.

This is roughly how that view looked in October 2025. If you venture downstairs in this place, and look past the jewelry counters, you can still see the remnants of the theatre lurking in the background.
Pantages Theatre on the NW corner of 7th & Hill #DTLA featured vaudeville acts and motion pictures together. “Compromise” came out in Oct 1925 paired with Buzington's Rube Band musical comedy involved dressed as stereotypical country folks with straw hats and blacked-out teeth.
