All these different podcasts and Datelines and streaming mystery docs and NO ONE has even begun to solve the greatest mystery of all: Why it’s important that nearly every team Notre Dame fields belongs to a conference but essential that football be played independently. 🤷‍♂️

Pleased to announce that @LSUBasketball student-athlete Brice Dessert was cleared to compete during the 2026-27 season.

Hot take: Coaches can’t say things like “how you do anything is how you do everything” or “excellence is the standard” and do things like this. The standard isn’t just about work, it’s about life/family. Related: sleeping in the office won’t make you/your team better.
Colorado State’s HC says his new defensive coordinator has been SLEEPING at the facility: “Kenny hasn’t been home in two weeks… We took our LB’s office and turned it into a bedroom.”

Meanwhile, the coaches for the reigning national champions go home at reasonable hours every day and hold short practices. This is all very performative.

My new @Sportico column: Kansas signing Trey Kaufman-Renn exposes a fundamental challenge for the NCAA. Schools agree to eligibility rules. But when a court blocks those rules, schools have every incentive to take advantage. The NCAA’s eligibility problem is also a membership problem. sportico.com/law/analysis/20….

It doesn’t matter how great of a coach you are… If you die tomorrow, football will move on and someone will take your place. A coach bragging about his DC sleeping at the office isn’t a flex. It’s a failure of leadership.

New uNILateral Decisions: @mwalsh88, @Joe_Nickell, and I discuss Ohio governor Mike DeWine's executive order granting all Ohio Class of 2022 athletes immediate eligibility. Can he do that? Should other governors do the same? youtube.com/watch?v=JAz2a5q8…
This week's uNILateral Decisions: @mwalsh88, @Joe_Nickell, and I sat down with @gregchickphd of @NILnomics to dig into some of the biggest economic and financial questions in college sports. This was a great episode. Thanks so much to Greg for joining us! youtube.com/watch?v=2i53lygj…

Football is not that hard and there is no reason for a coach to sleep in the office. This is silly and does nothing to make the team better.
Dude, get this out of sports. Your kids want to see you. Your wife wants to see you. Go home. “I’m here so you have to be here” culture lead by old men whose kids are grown and wife is chillin’ with the pool boy needs to go.

For years, the @NCAA has made value judgments about the academic rigor and calibre of education at schools domestically and around the globe. The judgments have been inconsistent and (often) discriminatory. I have seen Europeans lose years of eligibility because the @NCAA determined that the student-athlete graduated at 15, seen Africans and South Americans be required to produce written coursework from the 7th grade, seen African Americans forced to produce their teachers’ grade books and lesson plans, seen the @NCAA enter into a consent decree with the Justice Department because they violated the rights of student-athletes with learning disabilities and seen numerous acts of unapologetic discrimination against females, blacks and other minorities. Yet, this organization is begging for statutory immunity from lawsuits and the right to enforce their “rules” without judicial oversight. Any organization that seeks immunity from lawsuits is likely violating the law AND WANTS LEGISLATIVE APPROVAL TO DO IT.

Great reporting on men’s college basketball payrolls. Average payroll in the P4, Big East & Gonzaga is $13.5M. SEC leads all conferences in average payroll with $17.3M. 11 teams have $20M+ payrolls. If you want to win a championship it requires a serious financial commitment.

Missouri State is a public university funded by American taxpayers. Their men’s soccer team has 27 players. 26 of them are from other countries. 1 American. Is this what “college sports” looks like now? @Kayceeunplugged reports on a troubling trend. sportandstate.com/2026/10/20…

Greaves pulled after that one, and that one's a mercy pull because there is nothing Greaves could've done there with Roslovic left all alone at the far post. #CBJ getting absolutely schooled here in yet another second period collapse, their third in eight games.

Why is the NCAA even fighting this still? Oh that’s right — because it thinks its chaos will help enact the Protect College Sports Act.
Sources: An injunction was granted in California for the Glancey V. NCAA case, giving all members of the Class of 2022 involved eligibility through the end of the 2026-27 college basketball season. The NCAA will appeal.

Pretty sharply worded statement from Leon County Circuit Judge David Frank criticizing the NCAA:
In his ruling granting FSU forward Alex Steen a 5th year of eligibility, Leon County Judge David Frank criticized the NCAA for “arbitrarily and capriciously excluding the class of 2022” from getting 5 years of eligibility. on3.com/teams/florida-state-…
