This is half right. Yes, customer satisfaction is irrelevant in a monopoly. But the other important half is "the customer must *need* the service". If the customer only *wants* the service, then they have the option to abstain.
See me explain this here: youtu.be/ypE-2sKXqUU?si=jySY…
The reason government programs are so inefficient is that, unlike a commercial company, the feedback loop for improvement is broken, because they have a state-mandated monopoly and can’t go out of business if customers are unhappy.
No matter how bad the service is at your DMV (sorry to pick on DMVs), you still have to use your DMV, because it’s a monopoly.
I once shared a long flight sitting next to & chatting with Brian Wilson. The catch: I didn’t know who he was until halfway thru the flight. Before I realized & after he was exactly the same: kind, humble, & curious.

IMO, Trusting something is just fine...sometimes.
When risk is low, trust is usually enough. But other times, when risk is high, our decisions & actions should be based on knowledge, instead. It all depends on risk.

This tracks with my experience. I've written about it here (ineffable-solutions.com/post…) and spoken about it here (youtu.be/n1W6tCd3S50). @ArtemisConsort
Many thanks to @InnovateNA, @collinsneil, and @morgankoth for hosting the 1/29 Tiger Talk and allowing me the opportunity to present "Responsible #AI: A Balance of #Trust and #Knowledge".

Most responses to @NateSilver538 post are "all in" or "all out" - extreme positions on either end of the spectrum.
I suggest instead a more nuanced approach that assesses the usefulness of AI on a case-by-case basis.

I drew and first posted this in 2020. But, I repost it each year as it still seems relevant.
