Right now an NBA game has 203 possessions
5 years ago was 198
10 years ago was 192
15 years ago was 186
17% of all possession are now picked up in backcourt
5 years ago was 10%
10 years ago was 6.5%
I've seen this cross my tl a few times now and ignored it at first because celebrating an injury is gross but if anyone is interested in what actually happened this is a good summary: reddit.com/r/nba/s/2vXjoLj2i…
I'm not gonna bother with a bunch of small sample databallr screenshots but the offensive rating numbers with Scottie and any combination of IQ/Ja'Kobe/Battle are wild
Please get some shooters
I think there's a poor understanding of what a good shot actually is. I've seen a few people - Darko, Scottie, some media - say that the Raptors were just missing good looks but open shots and good looks are not the same thing
Scottie Barnes on the performance he had last game:
“Shots wasn’t falling. It is what it is. Just find out ways how you can impact it. Still feel like I did a great job, defensively. Just come out with something positive.”
“Go to the next game, go back home, got a next game tomorrow. It’s all what you really got to do.”
“I feel like all the shots, obviously I missed a lot of shots. All my 3s, wide open. They’re helping in, 3s open. My middies wasn’t falling. They had help in the paint. So, couldn’t really try to get all the way to the rim.
“I obviously missed some easy ones as well, but on defence, I feel like I still had a great impact.”
“Like I said, you just look for a positive, it is what it is. Go to the next game, try to go dominate.”
If you're open from three because you're Scottie Barnes and you're a career 30% shooter on 1200+ attempts or Allen Graves who has not established he can consistently make them it's not necessarily a good shot
In a lot of cases that's the shot the defense wants you to take
Nah the defensive issues are legit but RJ hard carrying the offense for a half vs Minny is the most impressive thing any Raptor has done season to date
Need the "learn the rules" guys to defend this one
ROOKIE CALEB WILSON COOKED PAUL GEORGE 🤧
Shifty jab into the dunk 😯
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
This was an uncalled traveling violation.

On a second watch that might actually be the worst game I've ever seen from Scottie. He wasn't just passive with his scoring he missed passes that should be routine for him and the defensive effort was awful. Just left the entire toolkit at home and contributed nothing
We've already circled back to this point and it's still true. IQ is a very productive 3rd or 4th option, if the offense needs significantly more out of him the problem is that you need another star. And that's a defensible position but it's about Scottie not IQ
You can't say IQ is inadequate as a 4th option in a league where Derrick White, Christian Braun and OG Anunoby were the 3rd options for the top 3 offenses six months ago.
If you need more out of him you lack star power, have serious roster construction issues or both
What's really happening here is a lot of you agree with @Hworlds17 but you just don't want to admit it
Scottie is taking 35% of his shots from inside 10' down from 55% last year(54% career to date)
IQ is taking 21% of his shots inside 10' down from 28% last year(30% career to date)
Doesn't really seem like this can be explained by your individual player agendas
Seems far more likely that the Raptors, who were already a bad shooting team, lost 2(3 if you count Gradey) shooters, only brought in 1 and the extra interior help that affords defenses is clogging up driving lanes
