I've been doing this work a long time but nothing prepared me for what I saw on a recent reporting trip in Somalia. I was there to look into rising food and fuel prices from the war in the Middle East landing atop dramatic cuts to the international humanitarian relief system.

The Qatari government has released a statement in response to the Israeli strikes in Doha on Hamas leaders:
“The State of Qatar strongly condemns, in the harshest terms, the cowardly Israeli attack that targeted residential compounds housing several members of the political bureau of Hamas in the Qatari capital, Doha. This criminal assault constitutes a blatant violation of all international laws and norms, and poses a serious threat to the security and safety of Qatari citizens and residents in Qatar.
The Ministry affirms that security authorities, civil defense, and the relevant agencies immediately began handling the incident and taking the necessary measures to contain its consequences and ensure the safety of residents and surrounding areas.
While the State of Qatar strongly denounces this aggression, it also emphasizes that it will not tolerate such reckless Israeli behavior and the continued tampering with regional security, nor any action targeting its security and sovereignty. It further notes that investigations are underway at the highest level, and additional details will be announced as soon as they become available.”

FMA condemns the killing last night of five Al Jazeera journalists in Gaza by the Israeli military and stands in solidarity with our Palestinian colleagues, at least 178 of whom have been killed by Israel since the conflict began. Journalists are #NotATarget.
An entire news crew working for Al Jazeera was killed by Israel on August 10. IAmong them was Anas Al-Sharif, a prominent journalist who had been the recent target of a smear campaign by Israel's military.
“Israel’s pattern of labeling journalists as militants without providing credible evidence raises serious questions about its intent and respect for press freedom,” said CPJ Regional Director Sara Qudah. “Journalists are civilians and must never be targeted. Those responsible for these killings must be held accountable.”
