Got my first feedback on my book. If you're an author, what did it feel like for you when someone first acknowledged your work, and said something positive?

Make things, and make things happen. Don’t allow fear of mistakes, or fear of others may thing, standing in the way of you creating what is within you to make.

Peace usually arrives when we put something down, not when we pick something up. What's one thing you could set down today?

Five questions about purpose from this week: What was your last goal for? What do you keep noticing? What did your last week say you care about? What helps when direction goes missing? What is your community for? Which is hardest to answer honestly?

Peace isn't the absence of noise. It's no longer arguing with it. Where's the one place you feel most at peace?

Miss Clara makes ice cream "to make our town a happier, sweeter place to live." Some work exists simply to bring joy. That is no small thing. What simple joy are you sharing this weekend? A World of Possibilities: amazon.com/World-Possibiliti…

Contentment isn't settling. It's finally noticing what was already here. What's something ordinary you'd miss terribly if it were gone?

Enough is a feeling, not a number. What's one small thing that made today feel like enough?

Most impatience isn't about time. It's about control. What's one thing you keep trying to hurry that just won't be hurried?

Miss Bloom told Anna, "Flowers bring peace to our busy streets." She doesn't grow them just to sell roses. She grows them so a whole town has somewhere to pause and breathe. Some work is simply about giving others room to rest. Where do you go to pause?

A seed doesn't feel late. Only we do. What's something in your life you're tired of waiting on?

Never. Stop. Trying.

Compassion begins the moment we stop needing someone to deserve it. When was the last time someone was kind to you before you'd earned it?

Mister Antonio put his hand over his heart and told Anna, "I cook large plates of pasta to gather the town." A meal shared turns strangers into friends. It gives people a place to belong. Most work carries a reason like that underneath it. We just forget to ask. Whose table made you feel like you belonged?

Most of us are kinder to strangers than to ourselves on a hard day. What's one thing you'd say to a friend that you rarely say to yourself?

A small practice from writing A World of Possibilities: The next time you buy bread, or a book, or a cup of coffee, ask the person behind the counter what they enjoy about the work. Children ask this freely. Adults usually stop. Kindle and paperback: amazon.com/World-Possibiliti… What answer has surprised you?

"What is my purpose?" is hard to answer head-on. Two smaller questions may get closer: What do I keep noticing that others walk past? Where do people already come to me for help? Purpose often seems to show up where our attention meets someone else's need.

Somewhere along the way, we start asking children what they want to be. One answer. One path. Anna never quite accepts that. The more people she meets, the more she wants to grow into all of it. What if the better question is: what are you curious about today?

At the shoe store, Mister Ben tells Anna, "I love helping people get to where they want to go." She wiggles her toes and wonders where her own feet might take her one day. Where did yours take you that you never expected?

Anna is five. She walks through town with her grandfather and asks everyone the same question: why do you do this work? The baker, the dress maker, the cook, the florist, the bookseller. Each answer opens a little more of the world. A World of Possibilities is out now. dylanraines.com/books/a-worl… What question did you ask most as a child?
