Who really belongs to a football club? In Part Two of my opinion piece, published in @NewTimesRwanda, I explore how people shape a club’s identity, culture and future across generations. Football is more than 90 minutes. It’s about the people who make a club what it is. 🔗 Read the full article here: newtimes.co.rw/article/39798… Football in Rwanda is More Than Just a Game. #RwandaFootball #FootballCulture @FERWAFA @bkproleague @Rwanda_Sports @FAPA_Rwanda

#ElClásico: The Special One still has it! 😂 He parked the bus, then ran over the all-conquering Barça! 🚌💥A proper Mourinho masterclass! 😅

Brilliant first half of El Clásico! 🔥 Real’s defensive discipline has troubled an exciting Barça, who lack a cutting edge. The referee is the man of the match so far!👏 Letting the game flow, respecting competitive challenges and resisting the urge to dish out needless yellow cards. An average referee could have killed the intensity with 3–4 bookings already. Refereeing that lets football be the star! #ElClásico

TALENT IS NOT OUR PROBLEM. PREPARATION IS. 🇷🇼⚽ Our U15 boys’ first two games at the FIFA U15 Football Festival in Baku tell an important story: a 5–0 defeat to African powerhouse Côte d’Ivoire, followed by a convincing 6–0 victory over Vanuatu. These contrasting results remind us that we have the talent and ability to compete, but we must invest more in adequate preparation to compete consistently at international level. We commend the willingness to expose our young players to international experiences. This is essential for their growth and deserves continued support. Tonight’s encounter against Albania and the remaining games will tell us more about what we have and what we need to become the winning nation we aspire to be in football and sport in general. All the best to our boys tonight and throughout the tournament! Whatever the results, cherish this opportunity to compete, learn and grow at this level. The experience you gain today will help shape your future and that of Rwandan football. The talent is there. The ambition is there. Let’s get the preparation right! #Amavubi #RwandaFootball #YouthDevelopment #FIFAU15Festival

Bugesera’s journey from forced exile to the possibility of hosting Formula 1 is both a story of national transformation and a deeply personal one for me. I spent my early childhood in Nyamata, lived there during the Liberation War after being rescued by the RPA, and later returned through my parents, who retired there in the late 2000s and now rest in Bugesera. In my latest piece for @NewTimesRwanda, I reflect on this journey and why the true legacy of Formula 1 must be the opportunities it creates for Rwandans. 🔗 newtimes.co.rw/article/39871… #Bugesera #Rwanda #Formula1 #VisitRwanda

From a Lost Dream to New Horizons: Rwanda’s Changing Opportunities for Young Footballers 🇷🇼⚽ Last night, our #AmavubiU15 boys travelled to Baku, Azerbaijan, for the FIFA U-15 World Cup Festival. As I reflected on the remarkable opportunity they are about to experience at such a young age, I was taken back to the mid-1980s, when a similar dream was taken away from me and my fellow young footballers. Following an inter-school tournament, we were selected for the U15 national team as part of a project that promised us a month-long training camp in Germany to develop our football skills and knowledge of the game. For weeks, we trained intensively at Camp Kigali football pitch under the guidance of Sebera, a former Rwandan military officer and football technician. We were excited, motivated and full of hope. Then, just as suddenly as it had begun, the project disappeared. We never knew what happened or why an opportunity that meant so much to us never materialised. Decades later, watching our young Amavubi players head to Baku brings back those memories and highlights a striking difference between Rwanda's past and present. Yesterday, young footballers were left wondering about a dream that never came true. Today, our young players are being given the opportunity to travel, learn, compete and broaden their horizons on the world stage. This is about more than football. It reflects a broader shift towards a Rwanda that places the development, empowerment and aspirations of its people—particularly its young generation—at the centre of national priorities. I wish our Amavubi U15 boys a memorable and successful experience in Baku. May this journey inspire them to dream bigger, work harder and believe that their talent can take them to the highest levels of world football. The opportunities we missed yesterday should become the stepping stones for the generations we nurture today. Abo twakoranye imyiteguro yo kujya mu Budage yarangiriye muri Camp Kigali, ndabasuhuje! #TheRwandaWeWant #AmavubiU15 #YouthEmpowerment

Paul Barril, the former Élysée gendarme turned controversial mercenary, has died at 80. Barril was a key figure in the murky circumstances surrounding the shooting down of former Rwandan President Juvénal Habyarimana’s plane on 6 April 1994, the event that triggered the Genocide against the Tutsi. For more than three decades, his name has been associated with controversial theories surrounding the plane crash—narratives that have helped divert attention from the perpetrators of the genocide and shift blame towards the victims. Despite the serious allegations surrounding his role in the Rwandan tragedy, Barril never faced justice for his alleged involvement. His death raises a sobering question: will the truth about those dark events ever fully emerge, and will those responsible ever be held accountable?

This PSG team is bloody special! 🤯 Not sure I’ve ever seen a team so complete in every aspect of the game. Barça pushed them to their absolute limits tonight, but PSG refused to crack. Instead, they raised their game to another level and stunned a brilliant Barça side. Talent, mentality, intensity and ruthlessness. What a team! 🔥⚽ #ChampionsLeague #VisitRwanda

#ChampionsLeague: We know what PSG bring: explosive pace, technical precision and ruthless efficiency. Tonight, the question is whether this new Barça can counter with their sexy, fast, intricate and unpredictable football. Power and precision vs flair and trickery! The next 90 minutes will reveal where Barça truly stand. 🍿⚽🔥

THIS MONTH IN RWANDA’S DARKEST HISTORY | 19 OCTOBER 1990 A WARNING OF THE GENOCIDE TO COME On 19 October 1990, French Colonel Galinié sent a diplomatic dispatch to France warning of the possibility of widespread atrocities against Tutsi across Rwanda. He cautioned: “There is a possibility of serious atrocities being unleashed against the Tutsi population in the interior,” potentially encouraged by hard-line elements within the regime. The historical significance is profound: more than three years before the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, a diplomatic warning already identified the danger of widespread anti-Tutsi violence and the potential role of extremist forces within the regime. The genocide did not emerge overnight. Documenting these warnings helps us understand the road to genocide and the importance of recognising and acting upon early warning signs. We remember. We document. We educate. Never again. #Kwibuka #GenocideAgainstTheTutsi #RwandaHistory #NeverAgain

Another massive milestone for Rwandan football! 🇷🇼👏🏾 Following the senior Amavubi’s qualification for AFCON 2004 and the Amavubi U17’s qualification for the 2011 FIFA U17 World Cup in Mexico, our boys have given us another reason to celebrate by securing a place at the 2027 U17 AFCON in Morocco. Congratulations to the boys, our very own legend and Head Coach Jimmy Mulisa, and the entire technical staff for raising Rwanda’s flag high once again! Now, let’s give these boys the preparation they deserve to compete at their best. The focus must be on building a team ready to make its mark in Morocco and beyond. This must be a stepping stone towards a brighter future for Rwandan football!
Massive congratulations to our Amavubi U17 boys for qualifying for the 2027 U17 AFCON in Morocco after securing third place in the CECAFA Zone with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Ethiopia! 👏🏾🇷🇼 Intsinzi ikomeye ku basore bacu, n’ishema ku gihugu cyacu!
