Tubi has 10x as many films in its library as Netflix. The quality and quantity gap there is insane, and it's free.

What the "Distributors Can't Find *Enough* Indie Films To Distribute" article says very, very quietly is that they're only looking for the next Obsession, an off-the-shelf genre exercise with a million-dollar budget and a niche-famous director that they barely have to market.

This is simply not true. I have a list of over 200 films I’ve seen at festivals in the last five years that still haven’t been released in the US.
Indie film has a strange new problem: Buyers are hungry, and audiences are showing up. There just aren’t enough movies to buy. Ashley Cullins talks to top dealmakers about what’s driving the shortage and what could fix it: mrf.lu/2dyqc

just love it when the piece you reported out for months gets read word for word by someone looking into their front facing camera who then gets ad revenue from it
people have said it before but the whole shortform video / youtube / podcast content industry is so extractive of actual newsroom labor, and as far as I can tell very few of those studios have hard news operations, reporters / checkers / researchers...

"Critics always admired Spike Lee’s 25th Hour for filming at Ground Zero." literally the entire movie is about 9/11: american ideology before it, the racism and division and chest-thumping that came afterward, the sense that we are all living in a blameless fantasy. come on, man.

Gaza has the highest concentration of child amputees in the world (at the peak of Israeli bombing, 10 kids were losing limbs daily), UNRWA says. And now Israel is now blocking prosthetic limbs from entering Gaza. All this has happened with US support or complicity.
🚨Aid coalition chief: Israel blocks wheelchairs, prosthetics, watermelons, and fresh produce from entering Gaza Athena Rayburn, executive director of the Association of International Development Agencies, which represents more than 100 humanitarian and development NGOs operating in the occupied Palestinian territory, detailed Israel’s sweeping restrictions on aid during a UN Security Council briefing Wednesday. 🔹Israel rejects scissors, crutches, wheelchairs and prosthetic limbs as “dual-use,” bars medical specialists and restricts engine oil so severely that its price has risen to 45 times normal levels, bringing aid operations to “an absolute breaking point,” Rayburn said. 🔹Israeli authorities have also rejected watermelon and onions under an unpublished “humanitarian policy,” deregistered more than 30 international aid groups and repeatedly moved the supposedly fixed Yellow Line, cutting access to at least 85 water points, schools and health clinics. “Humanitarian assistance, by its nature, cannot be conditioned,” Rayburn said, noting Israel was shrinking “almost daily” the physical space in Gaza where aid groups can operate.

I don’t know about any of these other projects but Dave fought for every single creative decision on this movie until the literal second the DCP was finished. There’s a reason this movie is idiosyncratic. You don’t get Peter Lorre as a major character by accident.
It’s baffling how Coyote Vs. Acme doesn’t feel like it was obviously executively meddled in the same way previous films that came out of WAG did. It doesn’t have the issue Tom and Jerry did where the movie ultimately isn’t about them and it feels like a subtle anti-Space Jam 2.

Appreciate the sentiment, but when you keyword-search the article for "anime" on a Windows PC, you get the error "bwong" because it's not mentioned anywhere in the piece. 'Jaadugar' would be a justified winner for outstanding animated program, but it didn't even get nominated.

When the inevitable Blu-ray comes out, PLEAAASE replace our version. That HD master we had was so ass, I had to boost the crap out of dark areas to get any detail at all. This is the remaster I wish we had a decade ago, but it’s finally coming.

To this, let me just add: it is making a difference. The right people are starting to notice. Doors are opening. You are actually doing something here, mark my words.
To all of those people who are either new to buying Anime on physical media or perhaps are lapsed in buying it but want to get back into collecting in a big way, I say this: now IS the time. If your finances allow you to do that then support great companies like Animeigo/Media OCD, Sentai Filmworks, Media Blasters, MVM and All The Anime/Anime Limited. We need to keep competition for Sony/Crunchyroll alive, don't let them control the market and allow a potential situation where you can only buy from them in the future. What they're doing with Crunchyroll's exclusive disc products being paywalled to streaming membership tiers and them not stocking other companies "lesser selling" titles tells you all you need to know. They would love a monopoly similar to the situation with PlayStation and we absolutely must not let that happen. Unlikely though it might seem to some, the PS situation tells us that indifference and ignorance is a big factor. Also because I've mentioned the PlayStation situation and soulless corporate zombies love defending them to the death (They can't help themselves)... just know you will be muted and or blocked if I don't feel you add anything to the conversation or are insulting for no good reason. Remember, choice being taken away in any situation is NEVER a good thing. #PhysicalMedia
