To understand the brain, we must first understand its parts — the cells. Our scientists together with dozens of #BICCN-supported teams just announced a large step forward toward cataloging cell types in the brain with the most detailed map of the motor cortex ever. #studyBRAIN
What are the cells that make up our brains?
A huge collaborative effort fueled the most detailed map to date of the brain region that controls movement
Great summary of the work!
Replying to @meg_kirch
Huge thanks to everyone who supported this work - especially @ecallaway and tech Lexi (now a tech in Hofer lab, so real rodent pulvinar expert and will be applying to grad schools next cycle, so 👀). Hope you all enjoy!!! 9/9
Congratulations Megan on the beautiful work!!
So excited to share that my final PhD work is finally out in @CurrentBiology ! Thanks as always to tech @lexifranklin39 and my PhD advisor @ecallaway - now grad school is OFFICIALLY over 😅 cell.com/current-biology/ful…

Excited to share the culminating work of my PhD w/ @ecallaway - we find in vivo evidence of L5 & L6 corticothalamic projections from V1 serving distinct “driving” vs “modulators” functions in the rodent pulvinar (plus intriguing interactions with SC inputs!) - #tweeprint 👇 1/9 – at San Diego, CA

Functional Organization for Color Appearance Mechanisms in Primary Visual Cortex biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/… Our latest color vision work! We find ON and OFF cone-opponent functional domains (COFDs) in V1 that interact as predicted by psychophysical studies of color appearance.

I’m delighted to announce the winner of the scholarship, @ghezae_isaias from UCSB. His early experience with injustice has taken him on a thrilling intellectual path. Read his inspiring story & share in his joy of discovery, borne of pain @BlackInNeuro dropbox.com/s/up01duhl3xjddx…
Congratulations Megan. Very proud of you!!
Happy to share my 1st official pub from my PhD with @ecallaway! We study how layer 6 corticothalamic projections from V1 influence dLGN and pulvinar in mouse visual thalamus and find that this influence is highly flexible and dynamic! Short thread👇(1/n) doi.org/10.1073/pnas.2002080…

If you do not know yet, my Neuroscience lab at @UCSC is looking for postdocs and other talented scientists. Please check ejkimlab.com/ and reach out to me!
I am thrilled to introduce this paper about neuronal cell types and their long-distance connectivity in @NeuroCellPress, in the Callaway lab @ecallaway. Wonderful collaborations with Ecker lab @zhuzhuz @JoeEcker and others @analog_ashley.

Excited to share my first graduate work with @ecallaway (& our lab's first preprint!) on corticothalamic pathways from V1 L6 to LGN, pulvinar/LP and TRN: how L6 affects its thalamic targets in vivo is dynamic & changes a LOT depending on how it's engaged! – at San Diego, CA

Latest work with @kim_euiseok & @ecallaway, in which we describe the organization of inputs from LP to visual cortex in the mouse.
TL;DR: LP is topographically organized! And LDVL also projects to visual cortex.
