Well, 2 years has come to fruition, my first two as HoD. Last year we improved upon the prior years' results, and this year we've improved again: 100% A*-A grades achieved by our Physics students. Hard work from them, hard work from us, all worth it. Cheers to the class of 2026.

There would be nothing wrong with getting some clear govt guidance and requirements regarding the use of: - Internal exclusion (isolation) rooms - Clarity and oversight on the p.ex process for both parents and schools - access to independent review of any exclusion (int. or ext.)

This article shows the true stupidity of the DfE, check the quotes and reasoning DfE provided. Astounding. The impact on recruitment, retention, and SEND provision will be appalling.
The government believes schools can find savings through adjusting the make-up of leadership teams and deployment of support staff, as it prepares to leave them to foot the bill for future teacher pay rises schoolsweek.co.uk/10-things-…

An important point in these discussions
My next question was going to be 'do you mean secondary or primary, mainstream or specialist?' because people often don't differentiate and the resulting conversations can end up silly. I can't comment on secondary as my own kids are primary and I'm teaching regulation 1-to-1.

Until we can agree that using self-report survey data to provide statistics about events where the real number can actually be verified (e.g number of students in isolation) is malpractice then EdResearch will be remain of dubious quality and usefulness.

The debate around isolation rooms has resurfaced, but if we set aside differing opinions for a moment, I think we can all agree, whether we work in education or are parents that every student deserves a disruption-free classroom as a basic standard. There are many ways to manage disruptive behaviour, and using a separate room for a short period is typically considered a last resort. All too often we take extreme stories and believe this must be the norm.

Everyone in education who sat silently by why Phillipson did nothing more honourable than indulge her personal spite, whilst lying about funding and new teachers, should be ashamed of themselves. I wonder if they will ever find a backbone?
My SEN son's public sector school has emailed me to say they will have to make redundancies in key staff due to changes in government funding. Where are the hundreds of millions of Pounds your idiotic tax on private schools was going to raise? Where are the new teachers?

This article on working at an SEND school should be mandatory reading for everyone working in schools.

The consistent government strategy of unfunded pay rises is a moral outrage. It forces redundancies and stokes division in a sector which has no more efficiencies to find.
If it's true the STRB recommendation is 4% then the one thing government can't do is accept that without funding. For us: -our funding for next year is up by 0.7% per pupil -funding for the NI increase is £1.5m less than its cost -each 1% pay increase costs us ~£3m 1/2

What's the intended goal @Google? To produce a generation of adults who can't solve basic homework tasks? No child's homework requires AI, nor should you be tempting them too cheap.

When school leaders fail, my experience is that they rarely suffer the consequences of those failures. More often than not the teachers under them do with increased pressure, increased workload, and more often than not increased burnout.

If you don't know of the ultimate physics geogebra site, enjoy this from the amazing Tom Walsh ophysics.com/fs4.html - And my humble contribution is the 1/x^2 function for the graph maker (I simply added the function, rest of the work is Tom's!) geogebra.org/classic/u3nfhqe…

Britain. Where a Tory cabinet minister claims the cost of central heating for his horses' stables on expenses while the tents that stop the homeless freezing to death on the streets are confiscated by police.

All decent people knew this was an abhorrent policy, but watching those tents get taken away just hammers home how unbearably cruel it is.
Camden council and the police are seizing tents , the only place homeless people can stay a wee bit warm in this cold weather, cost of living crisis and lack of mental health support. I hope Suella Braverman happy now.

The ignorance around how hard teachers have to work just to keep their heads above water is staggering at times. The ‘teachers don’t know what hard work is’ mantra, attached to the ‘6 week holidays’ and ‘3.30 finish’ jibes. These are mostly ppl with absolutely no concept of what it takes just to break even as a teacher - the work you have to put in. God, it’s annoying.

How much do you really know about the stats on boys vs girls? The boys are behind, in just about every conceivable metric. Health, Mental Health, Drugs, Crime, Achievement, and many more. There's only one metric where girls are doing worse than boys. joshuastaffordhaworth.substa…
